Aussiejourno's Weekly Blog Awards

Top Blogs For Week Ending 2 June

Aussiejourno's Weekly Blog Awards are meant to encourage bloggers from all round the world and they give new bloggers the chance to get their work noticed in an increasingly popular forum, alongside the world's most-visited blogs.

There is no monetary reward, no live TV coverage, no red carpet interview, but the exposure comes with international bragging rights. If you would like your blog (or someone else's) to be considered for next week's awards, please leave the url here, in the comment section. You can nominate as many blogs as you want. Entries close at midday Greenwich Mean Time each Friday.

In conclusion, I would just like to say I've been mentoring several bloggers for a while and it is important to know that the work of a blogger whose url has only 10 hits can be ranked alongside a blogger whose url has 10,000 hits or more. I would like other would-be writers and bloggers to benefit from the fact that I am a bestselling novelist (`Vegemite Vindaloo', published by Penguin) and career journalist with almost 30 years' experience in writing, editing, design, newspaper technology and production.

  2. Thanks again, David! I've said it before, but it's worth repeating, the time and effort you put into your blog awards is amazing, and very much appreciated.

  3. Thanks David,
I am maintaining the position. :)

I am amazed to see your energy level for blogging. Keep it up.

Since mine is absolute personal blog, I write for myself.. I don't really want to commercialize it in any sense.

So what's the next step then?

  4. Moreover, when I travel my blog feels lonely. :(
That's what is going to happen again.

  5. So happy to still be in the top ten, thank you David! I am always constantly amazed at the time and effort you selflessly give to us all, we really do appreceiate it -

  7. Hi Stacy,

I don't expect any thanks at all, but it's still really heartening to hear it!

There's a bit of time and effort that goes into the blog - but I do have a lot of fun and my perspectives in life are clearly defined.

    Lovely to hear from you.

    Keep smiling

  8. Hi Cuckoo,

Yes, well done. Thanks for visiting.

Ah yes, there's a bit of energy that goes into the blog, but I keep focused on my family and my other priorities in life.

Besides, I'm also wrapping up another novel for Penguin at the moment.

Like you, I don't intend to commercialise my blog yet! Regards the next step - just keep writing and use your blog to share you obvioys skills with your many readers around the world.

    Keep smiling

  9. Hi Carol,

Always lovely to hear from you - and I know how busy you;ve been the past fortnight.

Thank you for acknowledging the time and effort. Many years ago, an American visitor told my Mum that I would make a wonderful teacher because of certain qualities she saw in me. I was 12 at the time.

I became a journalist, not a teacher, but she was so right. I guessyou could say that I have talen on the role of mentoring or shepherding many bloggers and writers.

So she was right, wasn't she!

David: Thanks so much for including me on the awards again, and at #22! I hopped on over to wordpress.com (lots of getting used to and retiring the old blog 'toiletpaper' for something new). So far so good. Wordpress is much different, yet the same in many ways. I hope to climb the ladder each week and reach the top.

That's not what my teachers used to tell me! Naaaah, just kidding - I had terrific teachers.

When my novel was published, I sent the first copy to my grade five teacher. She used to make me read my essays to the class - a really wonderful experience.

  45. Hello David great idea.

I'd like to nominate my two football blogs.

  46. Thanks David appreciate your comments

I've published a book ten years ago, was teaching for 17 years and had to leave due to chronic illness...

so 18 months out of work I've used my writing skills from ten years ago, my passion (football)and my computer coz health is a big problems....walking, energy etc mystery illness

but like the guy from Monty Python...I ain't done yet:)

and suddenly I'm off to cover the Asia Cup as a media man...and the local paper will take a few articles

from the classroom to the Socceroos media conferences..what a change

    what a hoot!

abou the videos, and pictures..can I use the pictures from google images that I find..any knowledge about this.

and I've had a look at your layout, headline bold, colours..I'm a quick learner so expect to see more developments similar to your presentation over the coming weeks.

thanks again for your advice and love the idea of the top blogs on your site..

    cheers

  48. Hi again, Eamonn,

What a fascinating story you've just told me.

I guess you are following your heart and if football is where your passion lies, then so be it.

Maybe your career change is the best thing that could ever happen to you.

But monitor your health and I hope things start to improve. The words ``mystery illness'' are always cause for concern, mate.

Fabulous news about the Asia Cup. Do keep me informed.

I'm glad you like my layout.

Re: internet images. Always check to see if there are copyright restrictions. If there are any copyright issues, do not touch 'em, but you'll generally find saturation coverage of the sort of images you need.

    Stay in touch ...
