Sew, A Needle Pulling Thread
Photographs copyright: DAVID McMAHONWith this week's theme being "Skinny", I reviewed a lot of my images. There was a photograph showing the graceful, slender Rolls-Royce hood ornament called the Spirit of Ecstacy; there was an early morning reflection of a slim tree on the still waters of a pond; there was even a shot of a group of mannequins.
But I figured there are not many things that are skinnier than the needle of an old-fashioned Singer sewing machine. These pictures were shot in an arcade in Singapore and as you can see from the image below, I was equally fascinated by the beautiful material that was being used. And just for the record, I'd like to point out that the "seamstress" was a man, who was more than happy to talk to me about the delicate work he was performing - and his love for the ancient machine.
That's a beautiful shot of the needle in the old singer and also of the fabric. Great for the skinny theme.

ReplyDeleteThe sewing gene skipped me in my family, although I appreciate those who sew. In fact, my dear mother-in-law is hemming a new pair of pants for me to wear for the book event tomorrow :) And growing up, my mom used to sew matching outfits for me and my sister.
I love photography and especially have a liking for macro shots. The old singer close up is my favourite of the two, but the rich colours of the fabrics is beautiful also. I'd probably take more photographs myself if my camera wasn't a dud!

Wow - beautiful pictures David! I've always been fascinated with sewing machines - eventhough I don't sew a lick! I grew up with the sounds of my stepmom's machine (an ancient Singer) constantly whirring away though, and have always marveled at the wonders both she and it could produce! That is a superb photo of the Singer, David. The gold design that I can make out on the edge of the machine suggests it is perhaps like the ancient Singer than belonged to my grandmother.
ReplyDeleteI have never sewn on a singer, but I can't help but run my fingers along the contours of any singer I see in an antique shop.
