Photographs copyright: DAVID McMAHONThis cycle had been left out in the rain when I photographed it some weeks ago. I actually focused on the two middle rows of cogs from above and to the side of the rear wheel - and then I was fascinated by the random way the long silver spokes ranged from soft focus to clean focus, right across the frame.
There is no place I would rather be than on my mountain bike so that is an image I am definately familiar with. Cool picture.
ReplyDeleteDavid, how did you get that pic? I just saw this and tried it about 10 different times with my camera. Changing shudder speed and what not but I couldn't get this same effect. Help a guy out here!

ReplyDeleteI used to ride a lot as a kid, but the last time I rode a bike with serious intent was at Stanley Park, Vancouver, in mid 1999. Glad you liked the picture.

ReplyDeleteGreat to hear from you. Either you can come here to Melbourne and I can take you round to the same spot to re-create the shot, or you can try using this data ....
Exposure 1/25th of a sec; F 4.5; ISO speed 400. Light was good. Mid-afternoon. It wasn't direct sunlight, from memory. A major factor was that the bike was on concrete, so there were no extraneous colours!!

I still find it astounding that bicycle wheels manage to stay connected to the hub axle by those thin wire spokes. I like your perspective and, well.. perspective.
