Personal Commuter

Ja, They’re Hot To Trot

A Swedish company plans to harness the body heat generated by 250,000 commuters scrambling for trains at Stockholm's Central Station and use it to heat a nearby office building. Real estate firm Jernhusen AB says the system will provide about 15 per cent of the heating needed for the 13-storey building. Large ventilators will suck in the warm air and heat up water, which will be transmitted through pipes to the building.

FOOTNOTE: Cold comfort indeed.

  7. Imagine the possibilities! Take the Tokyo subway where they stack people in like sardines. The heat generated there must come close to temperatures on Mercury. ;-)

  12. Here in the southwest, some of our houses are of the "passive solar" design. This new method, if it catches on, what will they call it?
