Z Is For Zip

Denim's Always Been A Riveting Product

Photographs copyright: DAVID McMAHON

Where would we be without Levi Strauss? As you probably know, he was the would-be gold prospector who failed in the Gold Rush, but who found his fortune (and started a fashion trend to survive the ages) by turning the canvas of abandoned tents into tough trousers for prospectors. I readily confess that I am a slave to denim as soon as I get out of my work clothes.

This post is for Z, the final letter of Mrs Nesbitt's ABC Wednesday before she takes us back to the letter A all over again. In the meantime, could you help me list all the Z-words you can think of (without looking at a dictionary) .... Zap, Zombie, Zimbabwe, Zebra, Zephyr, Zinc, Zuider Zee, Zither..... it's over to you now.

  3. Since I am now "semi" retired, I can pretty much wear blue jeans anytime and anywhere(except to bed and when officiating sports)....down to 4 dress shirts and one suit(which works equal for weddings and funerals, both about the same thing in my mind)....and no dress shoes(I'll buy a new pair for the next funeral)....

  5. You mean there are OTHER types of clothing, besides denim jeans?

Actually, I prefer the black denim---only have to wash them HALF as often!

"Where would we be without Levi Strauss?" Probably for 95% of us---NAKED! As in no "real" clothes!

    A.K.A.---ZILCH!

Nice post. I, too, marvel at denim. Great invention.

Jeans are so much a part of our lives. Think how cool you could be as a kid with the right pair of Levi's!

Ok, my mind is evidently in the gutter because I find that photo totally erotic. Shame, shame.

Or perhaps I am the only one bold enough to say so.

  24. Hi David, I thought zebras were going to dominate this weekks ABC posts. Looks like zips won the day.
For about the first time in my life I do not have any blue denim jeans. They all wore out - maybe it is a good thing I did not replace them, because my new lifestyle has resulted in a significant weight loss and reduction in the midrif. I'll give it another month to replace my wardrobe and will start with the jeans

  25. I love to wear denim except when I sleep. How about Zeppo, Zany, Zero, Zeus, Zabasearch, Zimbabwe, Zebra, Zoo, Zoology, Zoologist, ...etc. Luckily, I'm not playing Scrabble otherwise I'm sure to lose.

Has Zulu been mentioned? Great picture of the denims! I love my jeans too, hardly ever wear anything else.

There was an advert a number of years ago of a young guy (particularly gorgeous!) who stripped off in a launderette and washed his denims. I can't remember which make was being advertised but the guy sticks in my head. For some reason!!

  29. Hi Dave,
Like your photographs. Not a great fan of jeans, but they can look great depending on who's wearing them!
