Palm Sunday

With Fronds Like This, Who Needs Enemies?

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

I took this photograph about ten days ago, because I was walking past this miniature decorative palm tree in an unfamiliar suburb. And you know when a sight just beckons to you and says: "Photograph me"? You know what I mean. And I thought the sunset shadow was just right and the unusual colour of the wall was just right and if I framed it a certain way, the shot would be just right. Yep, sometimes you just have to follow your instincts and take the shot. But it's only possible if you carry a camera with you at all times.

  5. And only possible with a bit of talent, know how, etc. I see loads of "great shots" but mine are never as great as they look when I imagine how they should look!
That is another good one. Glad you have a camera with at all times... (and other bloggers I visit - love these photos)

  7. I am so glad that you listened to your instinctive "Just right" messages, David. For the result is, indeed "Just right!"

  8. As I see it, you have made two very important points:
    1. The foreground makes the picture (with a few exceptions
    3. Always carry a camera

  9. Gorgeous shot David. Love how the graceful palms frame the pic. I paint a lot of sunsets so am kind of partial to any photos of them too. :)

David, i carry my camera with me at all times. Now, if I could also remember to carry the batteries! Twice now I have set up my camera and tripod only to discover that the batteries are still home in the charger ....

  16. Great shot! "Never ever leave home without it. :-)))

Yesterday I went on a little hike with a some of my brothers and kids. Afterwards, while having coffee, everybody was eager to look at the pictures I had taken. Remarked one of my brothers: "It sure is annoying that Merisi is shooting us all the time, but boy is it fun to watch her photos afterwards!"

  17. "a camera with you at all times."

    except in the potty.

but then who would put a palm tree in a potty?

oh if you tomorrow have a picture of a palm tree in a potty tomorrow, gonna be embarrassed.

  18. Interesting pic because I would have NOT guessed it to be a miniature palm with a wall as the backdrop, but a full sized one with a foggy sunrise in the background!
