Pygmalion Auditions, This Way

Some Gardeners Are So Pig-Headed

Photographs copyright: DAVID McMAHON

On Wednesday I was driving down Princes Highway when I spotted an unusual sight on a grass verge to my left. It was a lifesize figure (probably fibreglass) of a pig and a lawnmower. But even though I had my camera with me, as I always do, I was in the wrong lane to pull over.

So on Thursday I made sure to slow down and pull over at the right place. To my delight, the pig sported a few additional details, obviously provided by the garden care centre nearby. As you can see, he was wearing a carefully crafted "jacket" made of fake turf. In addition, this being the Australian Rules football season, someone had wrapped a St Kilda Football Club scarf around the animal's neck.

And if you look carefully at his hindquarters, you'll be able to see how good his jacket is. Now look at his hind hooves and you'll see another intriguing detail - good, sturdy, trusty brown boots like those worn by thousands of tradesmen in this country.

I wonder if the lawn-mowing pig is really a subtle advertisement for a sequel to Spike Lee's film Mo Better Blues?

he he what a great model. It's a pig of a job to get the right angle though huh,

You, having posted lots of British gaffs in the past, will enjoy my post today at Cheltenham. Chortle all you like, do, David, i certainly am. Shame though it is, i give up. England is not what it was.

You guys have a wonderful sense of humour which you gleefully express - I'm sure if you tried to put something like that on the roadside here the police would remove it as a driving distraction!! Great photos.

Yeah, really funny! Was he a pygmy?
In England we have The Angel of The North and The Wicker Man by motor ways and & once saw a camel! Not real.

LOL! That's a hilarious photo find! Perfect. :)

It makes me wonder what else is in their yard...

I suppose they had "Miss Piggy" attending to the flowers just around the corner?

If you think this pig somewhat special - have look at my dog!

they could have at least given him trousers!

This is priceless! We have a truck in my hometown that's parked on a lawn, and every time I go by it, somebody's added something new to it. The pig is much cuter though!

I see you went whole hog on this photo shoot.

Yesterday we were driving through a quaint little surfing village here on the North Shore and there wasn't a parking place for miles. Of course I saw photo op after photo op. I told Amoeba that I could try a "David" and climb out the car window, but that I wasn't David, and I'd probably drop the camera or lop off my head or arm on a passing surfboard, and muff the photo to boot.

What a cracking post - again! Trust you to find a slightly different slant again - you have set a precedent here you know and set yourself a challenge. We expect the unexpected now... :0)

Hi, that piggy outfit was my work when I worked @ Newturf...I am the St Kilda supporter hence the garb....you neglected the yellow tie to match his jacket.

Cheers
