So I can be a little bit slow sometimes, okay? But I’m a bloke, and it comes with the territory. So don’t shake your head and click your tongue when I tell you that I missed all the clues yesterday. Yup, every single clue.
It was cold when I got up. Missed clue #1. It was a cloudless sky. Missed clue #2. I could see smoke-vapour billowing gracefully from the roof heating vent of my neighbour across the road. Missed clue #3.
So, clad in my grey suit and my maroon-and-silver tie and nothing warm except my sense of humour, out I strode through the front door – to find both cars covered with ice. Ice? We’re still a week away from winter but yes, it was cold. And yes, the car doors were frozen shut as well.
But an icy Melbourne night means a cloudless Melbourne day and a blue Melbourne sky, so when I got to the station there was a beautiful crystal-clear sky daubed with pink and blue.
I did the right thing and ignored my train so that I could take these shots of the early-morning moon hanging over the station. Which of these four compositions do you like best?

For other participants in Dot’s concept, go to Sky Watch Friday.
I like the first photo the best. All those angles are a great compliment for the moon.
ReplyDeleteThe second wait, its actually the third .. I prefer the vertical to the horizontal ... in this instance because there is much to balance the moon ...
ReplyDelete:-Daryl
I prefer the last one. I tend to like a less cluttered look as I see in that one.
ReplyDeletei'd agree with daryl here... there's a good, quiet composition in that photo, uncluttered with interesting geometric effects...
ReplyDeletekeep well...
I like how golden the moon looks in the 2nd shot.. but they're all wonderful.. as always.
ReplyDeleteBUT.. it's sheer LUNACY that you think you're mooning me on a Friday morning, as it's still Thursday afternoon around here.. for now. ;)
I like the third shot the best. The lines are so bold and the links in the chain so clear against the sky. And the moon looks glowy. I love it.
ReplyDeleteI can't pick a favorite!
ReplyDeleteAll of them are great photos as usually.
ReplyDeleteI always like moon-shots:) But your are just fantastic! The first one is just perfect!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend:)
cool series
ReplyDeletePretty pictures, excellent. Congratulations
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures.
ReplyDeleteI like the first photo the best, but they're all great as always, David!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend!
All those angles are a great compliment for the moon.
ReplyDeleteI like no. 3 the best. But, then again. They are all great - together.
ReplyDeleteI love the circles. I love the story of ice. I love that there is none hear. Your telling of it is enough for me!
ReplyDeletenice catch for SWF! Hope to see you around in my corner too..
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, I think they're all good in a different way. You've managed to turn a simple subject into a unique shot yet again.
ReplyDeleteI recently saw a photo that made the full moon appear to be supported by a crane. Maybe you could try this next time - moving around a little bit you might be able to make it look like the power lines were holding up the moon. But then again, in that cold you might not be wanting to move around to to get a different angle! :)
Cheers,

I like them all, but the angles are really great in #1.
ReplyDeleteI'm by no means a photographer but I would have to say the 3rd. At first glance I liked the first one.
ReplyDeleteThen I went through to choose and it was a close call between 2nd & 3rd. I'm not quite sure why...and didn't realize the lines were cable line for train! Winter...brrr! I'm where it's very hot and wishing for a cool wind! It's still Thursday evening!
I would like to thank you for honoring me by leaving a comment at Thankful Thursday meme.
Love your photography and sense of humor!Didn't see any childhood photos of your home though!!!
Great post DUDE...that's the U.S. version of bloke - I think...I'm an old...well at least middle aged - woman...
ReplyDeleteI like #1 and I love that you skipped the train to get the photos! Good on ya'!!
Hard choice but I pick #3.
ReplyDeleteI love the geometry of these shots with the moon as muse. Fantastic.
ReplyDeleteTo the moon, Alice. Bang, zoom, straight to the moon!
ReplyDeleteThe moon is a cold object even in summer...so I can't blame you for missing clues...very interesting pictures...cold comfort.
ReplyDeleteSandi
I think they were worth the wait!
ReplyDeleteNice capture of the moon. Lovely photo. I saw two moons in the sky...lol. You can see them in my SWF. :)
ReplyDeleteAll of them are stunning on their own artistic merits; now the moon you've captured in each of them is fabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteEvocative scenes - here in Perth we are being battered by Antarctic gales :(rvay
ReplyDeleteGreat moon shots and narrative. Excuse me, please. I have to go sit by the fire. I seem to have become chilled.
ReplyDeleteAll is great.... If my son see this, he will said..."...the moon." ^__^ :D He is 21 months.
ReplyDeleteMy SWF in here Thanks
love the angles that u took shots.
ReplyDeleteMine in here Thanks
I hope the next train didn't make you really late! I like all of them....and how long did it take to get into your icey car?
ReplyDeleteQ. Which of the series does "Louis" like best?
ReplyDeleteA. All of the above.
Nice series, and as always, amusing commentary. "Louis" e-mailed the link to your "Kneel Armstrong" post to his mailing list. Everyone seems to have enjoyed it - especially the Pastors!
Dav, if my wallet permits. I'll be out on the next plane to Melbourne for winter and getting away from the hot sun here in SG. Wanna trade weather? :P
ReplyDeleteThey're all lovely, but the first and third are my favorite. The third, maybe.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I love catching what's left of the moon in the morning.
Cheers David...
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to seeing your winter shots.
I pick no.2..
I don't know why..
I just do
:o) said it in a poem for you my friend...
a very beautiful set
ReplyDeleteIce in Oz? No kidding!?
ReplyDeleteIt's like you put the moon in a cage.
Thanks for your visit to sizzling hot Jerusalem.
Shot three!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots but I wouldn't miss my train for photos! I have a long way to go, haven't I?!
I like the top one best! Brr!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots all! I never captured the Moon in my lens... gives me ideas.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment at my site.
I like the last..the moon does look a bit away..but it captures my attention ..lovely

Hello David! It's hard to choose as I like all of the shots but I think the first, I like the symmetry of the telegraph pole and fixtures. Have a great weekend and stay warm!
ReplyDeletei like the last photo that you have here... nice shot...
ReplyDeletecheck out mine here:

I do like all the pictures, and the composition was great.. against this weeks sky.
ReplyDeleteNice weekend to you from Norway.
Ever so clever! Hard to imagine winter coming soon as we just lived through one of the longest around these parts.
ReplyDeleteGreat set of photos.
Cool shots!
ReplyDeleteI have to say the third. Everything looks like it belongs, perfect picture.
ReplyDeleteThe third one. They are all good pictures but for some reason I'm drawn to the third.
ReplyDeletelooks cold to me.. great skywatch
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful moon - I love all the shots...
ReplyDeleteI'll just look at these nice moons Thank you:) I hope you weren't too cold I wish for the cold again in our ninety degrees here in TX
ReplyDeleteoh i was sitting there, about to concentrate on which exactly was my favorite, which is a difficult choice, and there you go and 'moon to all of' us. oh HA HA HA.
ReplyDeleteoh yeah? well hmmm...i think i like the first one because it hit my eye like a big pizza pie. no, i suppose that's not that clever. it wants to be, but its generator didn't get enough sleep.
still, i have my eye on you, mcmahon. ;)
[it's *still* weird to think you're having winter as we're trying to find some signs of summer. it's just weird.]
[yes it is.]
What's dot in the sky?
ReplyDeleteWonderful images of the moon David!
ReplyDeleteSuch a clever way to capture it.
Stay warm.
I prefer the 1st one, David. Loved the story behind it as well. Its hard to believe there was ice when we have almost hit 90 degrees this week!
ReplyDeleteI like the 2nd and 3rd the best. If I had to choose one, it's the vertical. Both of these show a clear moon with sharp detail of the surface.
ReplyDeleteSorry you missed your clues. Ice? Brrrr.
Thank you so much for visiting and spending a little time with my blog, David. I came to yours and thought right away that I liked the third one best. However, when I asked my husband, he said he definitely liked the first. Now that I see the other comments I have to smile. Looks like everybody's got different opinions.
