Paid no heed to portents
So she lost her royal throne
To an upstart barely grown

  2. With a name like Hortense, I should think she would lose a throne at the very least, lol!
    Very cleverly done Maestro!

  3. The lovely Princess Hortense
Snagged her stockings, when climbing a fence.
    She shouted out, "Blast!"
    That pair was my last
And she took to her bed, feeling tense.

There once was a Princess named Hortense,
Who refused to heed dire portents,
    She crossed black cat's trails,
    Then walked the train rails,
And died from a lack of good sense.

  7. I wonder whether, had she not ignored the portents, she would still have lost the throne. Can we influence fate? That aside, nice rhyme DM.

  11. They locked her in a tower high
Where all she sees is a square of sky
And twice a day she's grudgingly fed
Some brothy water and stale bread.

Oh, poor Hortense! She really should have heeded those portents...
