Come Mister Tally Man, Tally Me Banana

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

This trip to Malaysia has been a great reminder of many facets of my own childhood in India. The sight of this huge banana tree in Langkawi jogged my memory and after I'd taken a couple of frames of the huge leaves in their unique fan-like formation, I decided I had to take one single frame that was "different".

So I used the 18-125mm lens to compose a really tight frame, emphasising the wonderful colours of the foliage, with the almost-geometrical segments of clear blue sky in between. Does the shot make you look twice? Let me know what you think ....

Wow! That blue is like sea blue, but then the banana tree would have to be a raft and I'm not sure that would last long. :o)
It's a really great photograph, it makes the eye do a little bit of work to pull the picture together. (does that make sense?)
    A keen pupil indeed! :o)

  3. I love how the leaves are stacked so tightly on top of each other. Very constructed looking. Make good roofing materials maybe.

  4. Beautiful shot, David! I don't think I've ever seen a banana tree in person. And yes, I've looked at it twice, three times...

  11. It kind of makes me go cross-eyed a bit actually.

Would you mind stopping by my photo sight and pick your favorite three shots? I'm entering a photo contest and don't know which to pick so I'm asking for suggestions.

    Thanks!fn
