Verse And Worse

Random Wit, Errant Rhyme. Not A Literary Crime

In the Outback town of Oodnadatta
You’ll find Lewis Carroll’s Mad Hatter
He misses the joy that Alice brings
Alas, she lives in Alice Springs

  1. I love the name Alice. It was my grandmother's name.

    Alice kept the dishes clean.
    Alice baked the cake.
    Alice kept the White Rabbit
    From always being late.

  3. And their old mate, the Cheshire Cat
    spends his days in Ballarat.

He's old these days and a little smelly,
and he has a thing for Ned Kelly.

  4. Your clever poem reminded me of the first time I heard of Alice Springs - in the TV series or movie based on Neville Shute's novel. I remember then reading On the Beach & another one. Interesting how the mind makes connections. Thanks for triggering that memory.

  5. Alice would like to see the Hatter
    And travel to the Outback
A trip like that takes lots of plans
And more luggage than a backpack

  6. Like Willow, my grandmother's name was Alice. but that's not why I have an affinity for Alice in Wonderland. I've just always loved it.
