The Name Rings A Bell

It’s Enough To Make You Cry, Too

A veteran town crier in Britain has been deafened by the sound of his own bell after 25 years. Keith Jackman, 86, said: "The local council tested me once on a noiseometre and it registered 118 decibels. Concorde taking off is only a bit louder than that." But, two hearing aids later, he will continue his job.

FOOTNOTE: Court of a peal.

  3. I bet there is not a lot of difference in the sound of the bell, to the children's playgrounds where I work. Very loud! I am getting a bit mutton & Jeff (deaf)

  4. When I'm 86, I hope I'll still be ringing bells!
