Why Can’t They Perform In A Sing-Song Manner?
A poetry group in Britain has been banned from performing in its local pub - on health and safety grounds. The Royal Standard in Ely, has been threatened with a $10,000 fine because it has an entertainment licence for only singing and not speaking.
FOOTNOTE: Standard's slipping.
Oh dear, sorry about that, my poetry group is gutted, gutted I say. MH
ReplyDeleteWelcome to my world. Elf & Safety rules, OK?
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting way of raising revenues. Wonder if the states has that.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
WHAT???
ReplyDeleteThe world has gone mad.
I guess that leaves out rap also.
ReplyDeleteHoly Molly,
ReplyDeletewhat about a poem of sixpence,
to recite before the King, er, Queen? Is her entertainment license only for singing with tea?
That is the kind of thing that absolutely drives me crazy! Bureaucracy gone mad.
ReplyDeleteNow if they can just find someone put the poetry to music! Or hum a few bars.

The sad thing is that the loonies win because no-one has the guts to stand up to them. I get soooo angry when I read these kind of stories...Today's paper has a story of a Butcher who was banned from chopping meat before 8am...too noisy, another, Health and Safety Zealots ban toys in Surgeries, as they might spread infection. Ahhhhhhh! Give me strength!
