That's No Uphill Struggle
A Glasgow-born African skier who only saw snow for the first time five years ago is the first Ghanaian to qualify for the Winter Olympics. Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong, 33, nicknamed the Snow Leopard, said, "Even now, when I go to big events, there are people who refuse to believe that an African can ski."
FOOTNOTE: Go for cold.
That is so funny! Do they not realize that Africa has mountains like everyone else and would have snow as well?
ReplyDeleteLove it! Very funny! Too bad so many have so little knowledge of Geography!
ReplyDelete"Cool Rnning Two" maybe?
ReplyDeleteMargaret
I love those success stories.
ReplyDeleteIt was even more strange, when he was on the TV news a few days back, to see the tiny, indoor ski slope where he learned to do it!
ReplyDeleteHad the same thought as Margaret - A Cool Running 2 in the making!
ReplyDeleteStrange, considering the high mountains there are in Africa. Much higher than in Scotland.
ReplyDeleteLike the Jamaican bob sledders from years ago.
ReplyDeleteWell good luck to him...hope he doesn't suffer the same fate as our Eddie the Eagle. We love him but he was made into a bit of a buffoon by the press.
ReplyDeleteHope he wins gold!
ReplyDeleteThat will 'snow' them!
I'm not a sports fan but these accomplishment stories are always very touching.
ReplyDeleteBless his heart. I can't wait to see how he does.
ReplyDeleteI can identify with this. You know I live on a daft little island, it rarely snows. Well guess what we have a world class snowbaording champion. As they say you couldn't make it up.
ReplyDeleteDo you remember the Jamaican Bobsledders who practiced on sand? Wow!
ReplyDeleteSandi
I hope he does well in the winter olympics.
