Sign, Sign, Everywhere A Sign

This shot was taken just over a fortnight ago, as I walked past Flinders Street Station. I noticed there were new posters affixed to the tram shelter between the station and Federation Square.
And I also realised that if I really walked quickly, I'd be able to get a clear shot of the poster through the traffic - with a tram in the background. I wasn't quite quick enough, because the tram was actually moving when I hit the trigger for this shot.
And in case you're wondering what the sticker says up the top of the glass of the tram shelter, it is: "No smoking in covered areas."

funny sign. wonder what they are trying to convey. are they searching for adoration...or seeking better treatment. we have no trams, unfortunately.

Now we wouldn't use paper...maybe...we get into our blogs and send out a note to the world...Hey, I'm alive (in this corner of the world) and doing fine...

Signs seem to try and cover up, try to communicate, but I'm not sure they do that good of a job! Mostly they just clutter up the view. But these are interesting! Great shot, as always!

ReplyDeleteI actually like the motion blur of the tram with the poster still and sharp. I think had the tram been sitting perfectly still it would have been a distraction -- too much going on to take it in. As it is, the focus (no pun intended... well maybe a little) is on the poster and the tram is the backdrop -- as it should be.
ReplyDeleteBesides, as Sandy pointed out it makes a neat optical illusion. The blur conceals whatever imperfections or dirt might have been on the glass, leaving the poster appearing to be suspended in midair.
It's strange but when I first looked at the sign I didn't see "love your trams" I saw "R you smart" same letters but different message. :-)
