Too Many Pink Gins

Hairstyle's OK, Dulcie, But That Colour's Wrong

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

This shot was taken in Montreal's Gay Village area, way back in 2005. I was on a very tight schedule that morning, as I had to check out of my hotel and catch a flight to Toronto, where I had a rental car waiting for me to head out to Muskoka for a few days.

But I'd been told by a friend that I had to spend at least half an hour photographing the sights in this part of the city - and there was certainly no shortage of things to shoot.

This huge figurine was on an exterior wall and I took this and a couple of other frames from the main street. Maybe it was a punk rock venue. Or a pink rock venue.

  4. Walking past her she gave me a wink
As she sat there up on the wall
I thought I'd only had one drink
    But now I guess I can't recall
Her hair was a odd natural pink
She had to be at least 10 feet tall
I didn't really know what to think
Compared to her I seemed so small
She asked me to click on her link
And if I wanted to have a ball
It seemed like we were so in sync
Just like Saints Peter and Paul.

  7. Ah, but the hair color works with the outfit and the flowers! What's a girl to do!

    Fun, fun shot.

  8. She looks very life like, but that hair is a give away in more ways than one.

  9. You came to my town!!!

The village is a great part of Montreal. It was falling into dereliction until the area was "taken over" by the gay community. Now it's a wonderful neighbourhood, with great cafés, restos and bars. I love it there.

  21. How funny. When I saw the picture, before I read the commentary, I thought it looked like a REAL person I saw someone post from Pride Week in San Francisco. Definitely an interesting photo opportunity.
