Take It With A Pinch Of Salt
Ever tried building anything from giant blocks of salt? No? Me neither. But that is exactly how construction workers are putting up a hotel in the world’s largest salt desert, Salar de Uyuni in southwestern Bolivia. The area, which boasts native pink flamingos, 1000-year-old cacti and rare hummingbirds, is becoming a tourist hotspot. The hotel mimics other projects constructed from salt blocks. If you do go, try not to lick the walls.
FOOTNOTE: Is it bigger than the San Andreas Salt?

Hmmmm...very resourceful.
ReplyDeleteI actually have an antique figurine of Orphan Annie that is made out of a salt block.
David-
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. I love salt. Trying not to lick the walls might be hard for me.
Not quite the same but, my sister once built a castle out of sugar cubes for a school project. It was pretty cool until we all went to bed and my dog ate her homework.
I wonder if it's just as cool as the Ice Hotel in Sweden? Now there's a place I'd like to see too!
CM
Well, I think it looks awesome. And add the pink flamingos, too cool!
ReplyDeleteG'day SLB,
ReplyDeleteWow - I'd like to see that. Why not give us a blog post on the figurine, with a picture?

Hi Colleen,
ReplyDeleteYep, I'm not averse to a sprinkle of salt, but I love the story of the dog eating the castle built out of sugar cubes.
That's make a great retrospective post.
As for the Ice Hotel - ultra cool, in every respect.

Hi Singleton,
ReplyDeleteI'd like to be there with my camera when the flamingos fly in!

I have a salt rock lamp, and it's MELTING!! Hope this hotel is more hardy..
ReplyDeleteYeah, what happens if some smart ass sprays it with water? Not that I would try that. Just some random smart ass...
