Please answer today's question on your own blog, any time until next weekend. Just link to this blog (or to this post) so I can follow the progress of the discussion.
The question is: As a child, were you afraid of the dark?
Oh David! I feel the hand quivering to reach for the pen....well the PC anyway! We are going out on the motorbike so I will "sort the words out" in my head! Hopefully the sun will shine and we wont get wet! LOL!
When we read descriptions of fear, 'being rooted to the spot' is often mentioned. When I was a child I was evacuated to a village near the industrial town of Wolverhampton. For some reason I was in the town at night, with my parents, and I needed to go to the public toilet, which was below ground. There was little lighting in those blackout days so I had to peer into the gloom. As I did so, a monster came loming towards me, reaching out to me with long, waving arms. And I was petrified, in the true meaning of the word. I literally froze to the spot, incapable of uttering a sound. I remember the feeling clearly. As the apparition passed me I realised it was a perfectly ordinary woman putting her coat on as she walked out into the night. It was then I nearly fainted! AND I wet my knickers! So I think the answer's 'Yes'.
i was afraid of the dark like you wouldn't believe. i had half a dozen stuffed animals i slept with and a nightlight. the covers were always over my head.
This weeks question, after thinking about i,t touched a DARK cord with me. I have posted about it although I know it's content may upset many, but strangely I feel the better for it.
As soon as the bedroom light went out, I'd think there was something under my bed! Never knew just what, but I always made sure my feet didn't dangle off the edge. To this day, I don't like my feet off the edge of the bed. Weird, huh? But the dark, per se? Not really.
Oh have I got a story for you! I'll let you know when I post it. Likely somewhere between Punny Monday and Sky Watch Friday, but not Ruby Tuesday of Wordless Wednesday. Whew!
I told you it would be about Thursday before I got this up. There I suppose it's about Saturday. Here Thursday is only just middle-aged. (1:20 p.m., Thursday 08/14/08) My answer to your question is another question: Weekend Wandering: What Goes Thump in the Night?
