Photographs copyright: DAVID McMAHONHaving spent six days here in gold rush country, covering 1900 kilometres in that time, at the invitation of Yukon Tourism, I was lucky to be here as the fall colours started to dominate the landscape.
On the first three days, we drove past strong yellows and greens, but by the last couple of days, we were blessed with rich russets dotted across this beautiful landscape. There was no end to the array of photo opportunities for anyone in quest of striking colours.
But just to make sure I didn't miss out on "normal" colours of the local flora, there were still plenty of green leaves to catch my attention as well.
Fall comes earlier the further north you go in Canada. Here in "Lotusland" we don't see the change of colours until October if we're lucky. But once it starts, it's beautiful! There's nothing like a crisp, sunny autumn day - my favourite time of year. Welcome home! :)

ReplyDeleteThose are gorgeous, David. I love fall colors and you've captures exquisite examples. Have you seen any reflections of them in water? That's a very nice perspective. I'd love to see the Yukon's rivers, creeks and ponds.

ReplyDeleteThe only reason I am not curled up in the fetal position, sobbing and moaning, as summer ends is because of that color. I do like fall.

I used to spend time in Vermont and the fall was glorious. I have not seen the range of colours that you get there anywhere else.

ReplyDeleteAutumn in Montreal as a kid was lovely...the colours stunning... waves of leaves to run through in the garden and if l stood under the trees iwould snowleaves...fab memory you evoked with your images, thanks
ReplyDeleteI have a beautiful photograph sent to me by a friend from Greenville Carolina of autumn trees reflected in the most still of lakes. I love it. I's one of those "I want to be in that picture" shots. Sad that we only see the colours of Autumn in Australia in a few perfect places . . Canberra and Bright come to mind!

I agree with other comments that I am not ready to say good-bye to summer but how can one not appreciate the colors of autumn. The colors and the smells of autumn help to soften the blow that summer is leaving for a while. Enjoy the day.
ReplyDeleteThe fall colors are spectacular in the Mountains here in North and South Carolina, too...but the most wonderful I've ever seen was in Vermont...I was 15...I still have that image burned into my memory...you're having a wonderful working trip so far...glad you're staying out of the Bear's dens...
