That’s All, Folks
Yes, blogging has been a great adventure. Yes, it was a thrill to get almost nine thousand page views in a single day. Yes, it was a great honour to be chosen as one of Google's Blogs Of Note.
Most of all, it was wonderful to be part of a vibrant, talented community.
But I’m going to be concentrating on my novels for a while. I'll still have a strong online presence and if you would like to keep an eye on my photographic essays, you can get twice-daily updates at my Red Bubble site.

I never really knew what blogging was until a year ago and when I hear the words "Goodbye to blogging" it sounds like a suicide note, like something awful happened or at least like some sort of impossible typing mistake.

We'll all miss you, David! The only problem is that we can't get your books here in North America. I've been looking for your second one, but no luck. ReplyDeleteI understand where you are coming from. I recently closed down a blog which was stressing me, and while on vacation touched not a single computer. Withdrawal symptoms!!! But it can be very freeing. Blogging can be time and energy consuming, and we must not let it take us over completely. There is life outside of blogging.
The best to you in your endeavors. Now I must really get my act together and get myself a copy of Vegemite Vindaloo. And I will follow you to Red Bubble. You read so many blogs you won't remember this but when I first started blogging almost two years ago you left a comment on my blog that has served me well these two years into retirement. You read my profile where I stated it was time to pursue my dreams that had been put on hold for many years and you said to never put a dream on hold. I thank you for that caring thought. I have since taken up photography (one dream) and although I'm far from being anything but an amatuer it has been a most fulfilling pasttime.

Well, I am sorry to see you go but I must admit in the last week I have thought about hanging up my keyboard as well. I'm too busy, it's become too much like work, I feel guilty when I don't blog, it's time for a change, I spend too much time on the internet when I should be taking better care of myself, etc, etc.

ReplyDeleteBlogging fits our lifestyle, perhaps for awhile.
In my opinion and many of my readers we impose too much on ourselves to produce when there is nothing to produce. I have removed those impositions. When I have a story to tell, or something to share I take as much time as I need to develop it.
I keep a list of titles as drafts. Some never see the light of day. Others are stories in the making. Others have made it to post.
I enjoy reading, maybe more than writing. I have a number of readers who are writers of some note, who blog infrequently, but read daily.
The very best of luck in your novel writing.
Well shoot... it seems like I found you only to lose you. But books are important and I can certainly understand needing more time to focus on them. Good luck David. I'll still be following your photography. This has been fun. Thank you for that.

ReplyDeleteThis is most unexpected for me who had herself reduced blogging from writing to just reading & commenting (some times.) And reading always meant Authorblog first. Your blog is on my Bookmarks list so I could read it even without logging on to blogspot.com.
I was lucky that you read my modest posts as well as being POTD. When that happened to me, I had concluded that I had "arrived" in Blogsphere in true sense. Had it not been for you I would never have so many friends who read my posts. I now have a full fledged Blogfamily - all because of you. You have been a real source of encouragement to all new bloggers, including me.
I have often smiled on early mornings 'inspite of many sombre moods' while reading your humorous verses. I will miss it the most.
Here's a request - stay with us via a weekly/occasional post at least.
In fact I have been drafting an interactive post about the story of a huge movie, and I have cast you as the CEO of the project. Please tell me you will take some time (from novel writing) to look at it from time to time. Coz I will never find any one to replace you there.
My very best wishes to you and your family and to you for taking on full time writing. May you win all the laurels and Man Booker awards for you work.
