Photographs copyright: DAVID McMAHONWhat you see here is the sight that greeted me a few minutes after eight o'clock this evening. It's a good thing I always have my camera with me, so I simply pulled over and reached for my camera bag - and my jumper, because it's been a lot colder the past 48 hours. This is not the best sunset I've ever photographed, but it's still very rewarding to witness and record a sight like this. I shot a few vertical frames as well, but the horizontal versions were much stronger images.
The strange thing is when you're standing there shooting a scene like this, you don't really appreciate how the colours change in the space of a minute or two. As you can see here, the difference is quite dramatic, with the orange wash much stronger and wider in the second frame. And believe it or not, there was less than a minute between the two shots.

What a gift to be able to capture moments like that and savour them later. Can't believe how short the time lapse between the two shots is.

I believe it. I shoot like crazy when photographing sunrises and sunsets... up to 50 different variations of f-stop and shutter speed... all in the space of six or seven minutes. It's fun!

Even though there may be sunsets that are more vibrant, I love that you've captured the "action" of the sunset here. I am always spellbound by the way the colors evolve & morph & blend, from warm to increasingly cooler tones, as the sun sinks slowly under the horizon. It seems each one is more beautiful than the last.
