Winnie The Pool

Recline And Fall Of The Roamin' Empire

Photographs copyright: DAVID McMAHON

There's nothing like the sound of ocean surf to create a completely chilled-out atmosphere. In July we travelled to Langkawi, Malaysia, for a well-deserved family holiday.

It was a great tropical escape in the middle of the Australian winter - yes, July is winter for us, believe it or not. And I have to say that the relaxation at the Sheraton was wonderful.

There were no alarm clocks. There were no deadlines. We didn't have to be anywehere at a particular time. The most stressful decision of the day was what time we would stroll down to the breakfast buffet.

Yes, I spent a fair bit of time in the pool, or by the beach, or stretched out on the banana lounges under the tall trees beside the cool water of the pool.

Lazy? Well, yes, compared to my normal pace of life. But, hey, that's what a great holiday is all about, isn't it?

As always I enjoy your perspective whether it be in photos or verse ... or even in this case of a holiday!

Well if anyone deserved a vacation in the dead of winter, it would be you David! Several of us are wondering just when you sleep!

Your headings crack me up!

Very nice, David! I like the way the blurred green leaves add foreground color to compliment the blue of the lounges. I also liked the one of the beach showing the boat. Very interesting shots.

Cheers!

I was just over visiting the lady who posted about Cape Cod and it has me pining to return THERE for a lazy summer holiday. Yours looks like it was just that, too! Enjoyed the perspectives in your photos. :D

Taking your holidays to good purpose--but laziness--I don't believe it one bit!

Ahh put me in that bottom picture. I've just had a week 'off' use the term loosely as it was all spent doing garden and home maintenance! Roll on January and the real summer fun! I so need a beach massage! Although your pics go some way in offering some relaxation!

It's just not intuitive for us here in North America to fly north to find a nice, warm beach. I have enjoyed your posts from Malaysia during your holiday.

How wonderful! The best sort of holiday is a lazy one -- and those are too few and far between, eh?

Come over and meet JJ, won't you?

I want to be lazy, there. LOL

The kids are better =). My son ended up with something after my daughter but his is something other than a random bug/visus. We had him tested for allergies and await the results.

Appreciate your comment.

Lovely. I have never been to Langkawi, but I hear that it is very laid back. Partly by accident due to the planning being done prior to the Asian Financial Collapse.

I am soooooooooo relieved to see that you do, occasionally stop to smell the roses, or in this case, the Frangipani [is there a spell checker on these comment boxes?]

You make Langkawi in 2008 sound great! Some other reports had hinted that it was a case of paradise lost. Glad it's otherwise as I've got some good memories of Langkawi myself. (In my case, I loved hiking up to Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells) and the boat trip to Pulau Dayang Bunting (the isle of the pregnant maiden) :b)
