Spoon Fed

How Could I Resist This Colour?

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

You’re in a shopping centre and you’re concentrating on a million things. You’re on a tight schedule. You don’t have time to stop for anything. You know the feeling, right?

But I saw a booth where children could sit and do special sand-art projects. You know the type - you pull a set of stickers off a page to reveal patterns on adhesive paper. You pull one sticker off at a time and trickle coloured sand onto the paper. Because of the sticky surface, the sand adheres immediately. At the finish, the paper is covered with a huge range of striking colours.

This ochre sand caught my eye - and I also liked the fact that the green string attached to the cheap non-gloss spoon was clearly visible as it trailed across the ochre sand.

Suddenly, I wasn’t in THAT much of a hurry. Miraculously, I found time to take a couple of shots.

My first impression was a very different type of alphabet soup in a bowl.

LOL Good picture. The color is really interesting and so is the story. I've said it before and I'll say it again, David, you schedule your day in microseconds!

Keep Smiling!

At first I thought that a child had been eating spaghetti letters on an orange table cloth & had left a bit of a mess! (There, that is a challenge for you!)
Your beady eyes pick out the most remarkable things!

If you live in an area with an Indian market, see also the aisles with spice bins...like seeing desert landscapes inside of plastic cases.

Love the subject matter and story. I am learning a lot about photography from following your blog. I am also interested in writing, so I get the best of both from your site.

Thanks,
Craig

Funny how the colour of something special can slow you down, isn't it?

It's funny the random things that catch our eye. I love it, finding the beauty in everyday items. :)

Here's what I saw ... it looks as though the spoon has a hole in it and the red sand it being seen through the spoon. Very cool shot!
