Spare The Rod

He Can’t Catch Haddock, He Can’t Catch Cod

A Croatian fisherman is selling his pet dog because it keeps catching more fish than him. Slobodan Paparella is fed up with being embarrassed in front of his fishing pals. He said that most days when he went fishing he would catch only the odd fish, but his Irish setter Lipi would jump into the water and catch dozens of fish. Paparella said the last straw was when he hooked a 6.8kg fish, but lost it at the last second - only to see Lipi jump in and catch it.

Oh come ON... He can't get rid of the dog!!!

Heck, I'll take him, I can't catch a fish to save my life. One day I'll post a pic of myself with the prized three inch bluegill I *caught* (out of a seriously stocked pond) last summer.

Oh my. The male ego is a facinating, fragile thing at times, isn't it?

I'm wondering.. does the dog sell the fish and have more money than his owner?

Good doggie! I bet the big babyhead can't catch any fish b/c he's stomping around tantrumming.

My husband should take the dog...he could use a partner that will actually bring home some fish. I used to tease him terribly...hours spent fishing and nothing to show for it. I'd tell our kids to take him to the supermarket and throw a frozen trout at him just so he could honestly say he'd "caught a fish". (Don't worry - it was all in good fun. He's lived with me long enough not to take offense. lol).

By the way, found your blog via a comment you'd left on my aunt's blog (Sandi @ Holding Patterns).

Isn't this a little like cutting off your nose to spite your face? He had free fish catching labor.

Hi Jo,

Yep, I'd say the serial tantrums are a big factor.

Hi Kari,

What an honour to welcome you here. Er, if you do find someone to teach your husband how to fish, could that person teach me as well!!

I chuckled at the supermarket quip, too!!
