Is This The Green Lobby?

Barking Up The Right Tree

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

You'd never imagine this is a country bedevilled by drought. This shot was taken in the Domain Gardens in Melbourne and I'd like to claim this as my garden, but in reality it belongs to all Melburnians. I was struck by the pure green of the tree in the centre of the frame, but I also wanted to include the gnarled dark-brown bark of the trunk and ponderous branches of the tree on the right. The public gardens of this beautiful city really define the soul of Melbourne and this photograph, I guess, is part of my own portfolio devoted to defining that soul.

Delicious photo David. I can just feel the feathery softness of those leaves and smell the sweet sap in the breeze...The bright green colour of the leaves is also one of my favourites (a nice shade of "heart chakra" green). Thank you for sharing your eye with us today (and everyday).

Oh wow, your photo really brings to mind that Melbourne (and all of Australia) has a different season at this time of the year...I've gotten so used to the autumnal and wintry scenes here (there's a snow squall expected tomorrow here in Chicago) this is so refreshing to see...

The contrast is quite striking.
Very similar to spots here in Texas. Drought riddled, yet there are evergreens throughout. It makes for interesting landscape. If I had a camera that was worth a damn, I could get some spectacular shots, ah well.. I can dream :-)

You framed a unique story, David, poignant and hopeful, life and death, Spring and Winter. Thanks.

Nature is very resilient, I only hope the country around here bounces back as well.

I love the mish-mash tanglyness of it. So, so striking.
