Party Time

Time To Let Your Hair Down

Photographs copyright: DAVID McMAHON

As I said a few weeks ago, today is The Great Aussie Christmas Bash. It's all explained in the post You're All Invited. Everyone's invited and you don't need to travel anywhere. It's an e-party and it's happening here. It starts now, because it's the morning of 27 December here in Melbourne - and it continues for almost two days, until it clicks over to midnight on 27-28 December in the US and Canada. Drop in, leave a comment and enjoy!

Happy Post Holidays party everyone! I'm enjoying this party at a truck stop in the middle of nowhere waiting out a storm!

I come bearing homemade almond clusters and Christian Brothers Frost White Brandy for everyone!

Hope everyone made it through the madness that is the holidays!

Digital Flower Pictures said...

Hi David, I wanted to drop by and say Happy Holidays and have a great New Year!

Unknown said...

Great photo of the fireworks! I'm not going to be able to be here for most of the party, but enjoy yourself!

My Food, I think I was bringing Silicon Chips and Browser Cookies. And, since this is an Aussie Party I'll throw in some Damper and Vegemite for good measure.

And a gift? Well, I'd point people to the best way to eat browser cookies - with mozilla firefox!

Cheers,

David

Unknown said...

btw, hope you don't get too much Spam, I hear it doesn't taste nice with cookies! :)

Epijunky said...

Okay, So I'm running a little behind, but I'm here.

I brought a tray of Buckeyes, a holiday treat consisting of peanut butter balls dipped in chocolate. I'm also contributing a case of Lake Erie Island wine (Catawba Pink... DELICIOUS!)

My gift is calm... achieved through Yankee Candles that smell like a fresh cut pine tree, and gift certificates for hour long back rubs. The perfect cure to post holiday stress.

Craver Vii said...

'Kay folks! I brought a box full of all kinds of lights. Everybody who wants, can have one of these glowing wrist bands.

And heeeere's some fresh-ground Sumatra. It's late for me, so I'm holding off the coffee 'till morning.

Plus, I brought a mountain of kisses... er... chocolate kiss peanut butter cookies that is.

COOL!! Who brought the buckeyes?

John said...

Allright, I made some homemade Spaghetti and meatballs, and I have a bottle of Jim Beam. In the words of the Black Eyed Peas, "Let's Get It Started!"

katherine. said...

What a great party! :)

I've got cranberry apple crisp hot from the oven with homemade vanilla ice cream. :)

Oh and I'll be stepping back to capture the party with photos as well.

Happy after Christmas everyone!

Deborah Gamble said...

I am quite certain I have never been invited to a party with this much variety. I'm having the time of my life! Thanks for the invitation!

I meant to bring a delicious homemade cheese dip, but the baby stuck her fingers in it on our way out the door, so we had to stop by a restaurant on our way here. Yes, the chicken wings from Chilis are mine.

Casdok said...

Am i late...hic!

My son is going to play along with you. Tune those guitars and let's start the chorus ....

david mcmahon said...

G'day Dave,

Nice work there! I do remember before I went overseas that you told me what you were ``bringing'' and I remember laughing at your wit.

Silicon Chips and Browser Cookies are a great idea, likewise Damper and Vegemite. Remember, you can't go wrong with Vegemite - it's in the title of my first novel!

Keep smiling

David

david mcmahon said...

Hi Dave,

Just saw your comment about Spam - I think all cans of Spam were barred by Customs!!

Keep smiling

David

david mcmahon said...

G'day Epijunky,

Wonderful to see you here. VIP seating for you, ma'am, while yobbos like Brian in Oxford, Dave, Craver and I sit in the cheap seats and sing raucously!!

The description of Buckeyes has got my mouth watering. Tell you what - I'll swap ya a bottle of Barossa Valley Riesling for a bottle of Lake Erie Island wine. Do we have a deal?

I think your gift is perfect. Wonderful thing to share with all of us.

Keep smiling

David

david mcmahon said...

G'day Craver,

Way-hay!! Wristbands!! Can I have one for each hand? Aussies are like the French - we talk with our hands!!

Where's Mrs Craver - she said she was coming too!!

You can throw some kisses my way - those ``cookie kisses'' sound wonderful. And hey, it's that time of year!!

Hi Katherine,

Cranberry apple with vanilla ice cream - can I please be first in line!!

Hope you and the whole family had a wonderful Christmas.

Yep, exactly right. You can't be late for an Aussie party. btw, are you having a barbie (that's BBQ for the foreigners!)? 'Cause if you are I've got some snags to share.

Mmm, sounds nice! Save one for me, I've gotta go now, hopefully they'll keep for a few days.

Jo Beaufoix said...

Wow. Fantastic Party David. I love the life size figures of Elvis and Joe Mangle in the corner.

I forgot what I was bringing so I brought cashew nuts, broccoli quiche and some houmous and dips.

For drinks I brought white zinfandel, Port, Vodka and fruit shoots for my girls. Miss E will be doing a High School Musical number later on, and Miss M has planned a turn based on Jack and Jill went up the Hill.

Oh, and the prezzie...

I changed my idea again and brought you all, erm, Christmas socks, and jumpers. They are bright, feature a plethora of cartoon characters, and may have been knitted by a mad Aunt. I can't be sure.
Happy Christmas everybody. x

Well, I'm here and I brought hot roast beef party sandwiches! My wife fixed them for our family's Christmas Eve party and they were a hit. Here's the recipe: http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=1665302

Okay, so now after that sandwich, which corner of this blog is the "pale ales" in? I love a good pale ale beer. As a matter of fact, just this year I acquired the taste for "black & tans"...good ones made with Guinness on top of Bass Pale Ale!

For everyone, I brought a hug and a kiss...yeah, even one on the cheek for the guys. We all need a hug, especially at Christmas time.

Happy New Year folks! May the new year bring us peace and hope, with tons of happiness.

Love,
Mushy

My name's on this little dixie cup, 'cause I'm gonna walk around and sample some of these beers and ales. Usually I prefer a light pilsner, but today I'm feeling a bit adventurous.

Hello all! Ornery and I finally made it. Company had us a bit delayed, but better late than never, right? I brought some of my special Mexican Food to spice things up a bit. Chicken enchiladas, black bean salsa, tacos and some beef and bean burritos. I also brought in a few gallons of strawberry lemonade, since we are not much into the alcoholic stuff.

Where shall we put all our gifts, David? We brought Smart Wool socks for everyone. And, a promise NOT to sing! :-) Merry late Christmas and Happy New Year, everyone!

Hey David! I finally arrived. The trip to my home kept me running late, but it was worth every minute. I had a great time.

I've brought a bottle of Irish Cream for those who want to have some in their coffee, a mincemeat pie, a cherry pie, more vanilla ice cream to go with the pies, and CDs of great Christmas music.

I also brought my new digital camera which I'm excited about using. It does so much that I'll probably be playing with it all night. I've also got a note pad to write down email addresses so that I can email everyone a copy of the pictures I took of them at the party.

Before arriving I fasted all day so that I have tons of room for tasting all this incredible food. What a great get together. Thank you David!

Peace! Hope! & Joy!

Tammy said...

Hello All!!

I'm going to bring some of the homemade cranberry sauce that Allan and I made for gifts this year. Oh and we have lots of leftover turkey to share.

And for music, I'll bring our favourite Christmas album, Bruce Cockburn's "Christmas".

Merry Christmas & Happy 2008!!

Rune Eide said...

I have brought my own Lindeman Bin 45 (just 1 bottle...) in case I was too late and all was gone. As a present I have brought to genuine Norwegan Hardanger fiddles. Since you sound like being of Scottish ancestry and used to the Bag-pipe, I imagine that you will be excited beyond repair - they sound about the same!

Happy New Year!

Now, where is that great animal beginning with a K?

david mcmahon said...

Welcome, Jo,

So glad you brought the whole clan. Those lifesize figures of Elvis and Joe Mangle - actually that's Mushy and my big Texan friend FHB, doing their impressions of the King and Mister Mangle!!!

in the corner.

I thought Miss E's rendition of the High School Musical number was terrific, especially when my youngest joined her on stage on her HSM clothes!!! Yes, I've got Miss M's performance on video as well!

My Christmas socks and jumper fit beautifully. Please do thank your aunt (the one who might or might not ave kitted 'em!!)

God bless

David

david mcmahon said...

G'day Dave,

No worries - am sending your share by ``special'' courier. Look out for the reindeer with the shiny red nose.

Cheers mate

David

david mcmahon said...

Ah, Mushy,

HRBs (hot roast beef sandwiches) are just what the doctor ordered. So glad you could both come. Will check out your recipe online, kind sir.

Pale ales are over there by the lake with the sinking sun. Yes, the lake that Craver and I fell into because we were trying to walk across it.

Hugs and kisses are important. Can I line up for the first one?

Bless ya

David

david mcmahon said...

G'day Stewart,

I regret to report that as soon as Brian in Oxford, Craver, Allan Cook, Fletch and I heard what was on that truck, we persuaded the driver to turn into a quiet little paddock and leave the vehicle there with the load unlocked - so we could filch the lot.

There, I've fessed up. Not proud of it, but I've fessed up.

The other guys made me do it.

Keep smiling

David

david mcmahon said...

G'day Craver and Mrs Craver,

Er, Mrs Craver, please excuse your husband and me for our ill-judged attempt (slightly under the influence of happiness, not alcohol) to walk on the surface of the lake.

Don't worry, our clothes will dry quickly in the sun. And no, our spirits are not dampened at all!

Cheers

David

Suldog said...

Woo-Hoo!

I brought my bass, so can I join up with with Brian and your son on some AC/DC? I know a whole bunch of Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and other heavy rockers from years past, too.

(In a pinch, I can improvise on some jazz, if need be.)

I brought a couple of cases of lobsters and some big pots to cook 'em in. If anybody doesn't like putting their lobsters into the pot - if they think it's too cruel - they can feel free to eat 'em raw.

Oh! I almost forgot! I brought everybody a poinsettia. They're out in the car. Take one on your way home, if you wish.

Nice digs you have here, David. Great job decorating!

Where's the bathroom?

david mcmahon said...

Welcome, Orner and TM,

Did you say strawberry lemonade? Yum. That's my sort of drink, because I am teetotal - in spite of the fact that I have an Aussie passport!!

I just tried on the first pair of wool socks and it fitted perfectly. They're keeping my feet warm after Craver and I had that incident where we fell in the lake!

Thank you so much for coming

David

david mcmahon said...

Hi Lee,

Wonderful to see you here. Everyone was counting the minutes till you got here.

Great camera and I'd love to see the results. I've put my email address in the top left-hand corner of the first page!

Thanks so much for coming

David

Craver Vii said...

Ornery's Wife made a stawberry lemonade that was soooo good that I never got around to sampling the brews. Maybe another time. It's a good thing, too, because after falling in the water, and waiting to dry off in this tie dye toga (thanks to Lime), I don't need alcohol to complicate things. Especially in a room full of photography fiends!

Why is Martin sleeping under the deck?

david mcmahon said...

Dear Tammy and Allan,

Welcome aboard - it' a lot warmer than Muskoka but pretty, in a different way.

You must have known I have a terrible weakness for anything that contains cranberry!

Wonderful that you were able to come and I hope the weather ain't too warm for you. Besides, the sun here sets around 9.15-9.30 pm, and then we have fairy lights rigged up after that ...

Big smiles

David

Les Becker said...

I'm late, sorry - I got a little lost. I'm bringing treats from Ruby and will post links once I get them through the intertubes...

Okay, now... where's my drink?!

david mcmahon said...

Hi Sandee,

That coconut shrimp is awesome. Flavour lasts well beyond the last mouthful. Fresh coconut, I'm guessing?

Er, I take no credit for the BBQ pork spare ribs - that's Mrs Authorblog's speciality. My forte is the lemon pepper chicken, so I've saved some for you ....

Cheers

David

david mcmahon said...

Welcome, Cecilia,

Hope you had a wonderful time in Boston and that you prefer the weather here!!

Tiramisu? Did the lady say tiramisu? Er, let me at it .....

Keep smiling

David

david mcmahon said...

Dear Runee,

A great big warm Aussie welcome to you. Yes, I am a genetic cocktail, but there was Scottish ancestry on my grandmother's side.

The bagpipes were actually a big part of my childhood because the big police bands used bagpipes, having been taught by the Scottish regiments.

That's a great bottle of Lindeman. Keep it away from Craver and Brian in Oxford!!!

I am certainly intrigued by the fiddles and the unique sound. You'll have to show me how to play them. Can you get up on the stage and join Brian, my son and Jim (Suldog) and add the sound of the fiddle to their wonderful music ....

And the kangaroos will be out shortly, as soon as dusk arrives!

Cheers

David

david mcmahon said...

Welcome, Savannah,

I had a great Christmas - it was wonderful being back home after such a quick trip away.

Thank you for coming and you must tell me about your Christmas....

God bless

David

david mcmahon said...

Hi Katherine,

My word, they appreciate the finer things in life - especially your wonderful selection of California wines!!!

That's our parish priest down there, wringing the neck on one bottle!!!! I guess he has special dispensation!

Keep smiling

David

david mcmahon said...

G'day Jim/ Suldog,

Mate, there' a pincer movement happening here - of guests rushing to your lobster. I couldn't get there quick enough, but Mushy and FHB brought me some!

Great to see that Brian in Oxford, my son and Runee have already welcomed you up onto the stage and that you have widened their knowledge with a little impromptu jazz!

I can't wait to read your blogpost! Now enjoy - there are many hours until sundown ...

Cheers

David

david mcmahon said...

Les, VIP seating for you. Your drink, ma'am? That would be the whole truck parked by the lake, waiting for your selection!

May I recommend everything.

As for the food, just try everything alphabetically!!!!

So glad Ruby could make it as well.

God bless

David

david mcmahon said...

Cravermeister,

I am normally unflappable, but now you have me in a state of panic. Is that a tie-die toga? Silly me. I thought it was a T-shirt. I'm er, adjusting everything now!!

Thanks for the reminder about photography fiends - I'm told Mushy and FHB filmed our fall into the lake and have already posted the description on their blogs and the video footage on YouTube.

Er, Martin in sleeping under the deck because he said that last carnberry tequila had a kick like a racehorse.

Mrs Craver, please excuse Craver and me our little mishap in the lake. It won't happen again - at least it won't happen again for the next 30 minutes. No guarantees after that ....

Cheers

David

I KNEW that truck was for me! I'll stick to the rum - I don't want to end up UNDER the truck....

Wow - quite the crowd... MUSHY - Ruby let me take a picture just for you - I'm late with the post, but it will most definitely be up tonight.

I will now excuse myself to go stuff my face.

david mcmahon said...

Hi Les,

I knew that you knew the whole truck was for you. By the way, there is more rum on board than even the Pirates of the Caribbean could manage.

Mushy'll be delighted with the picture - good on ya, Ruby!!

Les, if you're off to stuff your face, let me accompany you!!

Hic!!

I hope you Christmas was a great one, David. It was pretty good for me, considering how cold it is up here!

Kerri Farley said...

OK - this party is just gettin started, right?? I've got a whole Tub of Spicy Maryland Crab Dip, with pita crackers, of course. I also have Mini BBQ Chicken Sammys for all....and some Wild Berry Wine Coolers to go around. Hubby said I better bring some beer....so I brought some New River Pale Ale too.

Save some of that coffee for me...will ya??

Epijunky said...

David... It's a deal on that wine swap, I'd throw in a batch of buckeyes if I thought they'd survive the trip :)

As far as VIP seating... Thanks, but I'd rather be singing with ya'll in the cheap seats :) More fun that way.

For today's gift (Hey, two days, two gifts!) I'm bringing even more coffee and 800mg Motrin for those of us who will have...er...headaches tomorrow.

david mcmahon said...

Hi Stewart/imac

Took me a bit of detective work to find the Twangy chicken. Guess who nicked it? Santa Claus!

Yep, even the big fella had to kick up his heels now that his delivery schedule was over.

Cheers

David

david mcmahon said...

Hi Janice,

Never too late for an Aussie party. Here's your frothy coffee with a little bit of rum in it. Okay, so let me fess up, my hand slipped when I was pouring the rum and er, ma'am, my chemical analysts tell me it will be in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most potent/ combustible cup of coffee+rum ever poured.

Just drink it S L O W L Y ....

The trumpeter swan is enjoying itself on the lake. Thanks for bringing it and (pssssst) remind me to tell you my moose dung story from my Muskoka trip two years ago!

Remember, don't skoll that coffee!!!

Keep smiling

David

david mcmahon said...

Hi Eric,

Great to have you here. You can leave your warm clothes up the top of the paddock. It's almost 100 degrees here today - and that's just the weather, man, not even the warmth of the Aussie greeting!!

Take it easy and let's swap some Christmas tales!

Cheers

David

david mcmahon said...

G'day Kerri,

Spicy Maryland crab dip? Ma'am, let me take that off you and I'll take ``good care'' of it - meaning I'll ensure that the other peasants like Craver, Brian in Oxford etc, don't even get a solitary whiff of it.

Your husband was right on with the New River Pale Ale. I'll introduce him to some good old-fashioned Aussie beer and wines. Never mind the headache - it's Christmas week!!

Coffee comin' right up. It's my speciality - frothy coffee with some Irish cream and a tot of rum (or six).

Like I said, never mind about the headaches!

So glad you could come

David

david mcmahon said...

G'day Epi,

Glad we saw eye-to-eye (even if gets progressively more hazy!!) on the wine swap, even without the buckeyes!

I have noticed that all the VIPs have been deserting the plush seats and have been moving down to where us plebs are sitting. Er. move up, lads, and welcome Epijunky to the Aussie Christmas Drunkards' Chorus!!!!

Cheers

David

My goodness I'm so late for the party...it was my one day off this week and all I wanted to do was lounge around and away from the computer! With only 25 minutes left until it becomes the 28th over here, I thought I'd pop in!

For those of you still partying, I brought a ton of eggnog with me!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!!!

david mcmahon said...

Mary, how wonderful to see you,

I hope you had a really blessed Christmas. I'm delighted that you're here - and that eggnog sounds like the best cure for the bug I picked up while travelling last week.

Come and meet the riff-raff (Craver, Brian in Oxford, etc) and then I'll take you further up the paddock to meet the gentry, just to prove that some of my friends really do have a lot of class).

Don't let Craver get his hands on the eggnog. He and I have already fallen into the lake once!!

A great big Aussie welcome to you and your family

David

Mary said...

I was fortunate that Craver (or the rest of the Craver clan) didn't steal my pumpkin eggnog while they were over for Thanksgiving...there'd have been some punches thrown. It is typically very difficult for me to be a sharing person when it comes to my eggnog, but I love you all, so I suppose I can share virtual eggnog. LOL How generous of me! LOL I also brought a little bit of virtual rum for those who are into that zing. Virtual imitation rum extract for the rest of you! :)

And 'specially for Craver....I have lactose free eggnog (which I recently discovered at the grocery store!).

Pass the Vegemite on over...I've always wanted to try it!!

Oh, man, this has been the best party EVER! Thanks for inviting me, David!

I had a blast playing some tunes, ate way more than I should have, and drank way more... No, no, that was just about right, actually.

It was a kick meeting those folks who were new to me, and a great joy to get reacquainted with those I'd met before.

I've got to be on my way now. My visa only covered 24 hours. Happy New Year to all!

Oh, IMAC? Can I get some of those fish and chips wrapped in a paper to go? I can? Thanks, man!

See you all later! Bye!

I thought I was late, but with the time difference, I guess I'm not!

I hope you took a lot of photos for the photo album I made along for you to keep! :)

This was a lot of fun reading through all the comments.

Great idea David!

Oh I am late !!! As usual was traveling. Is there anything left ?

I couldn't bring anything except for 48 bottles of Sula wines (both white & red) & smoked butter chicken sandwiches. Have you heard of it ? My specialty.

And I can still see some of them dozing under the table.

David, where are you ? Click one photo of them and mine too please.

Happy Christmas and Merry New Year to all of you.

Well, I think I am drunk as well.
hic hic... gulp gulp..

You are right David, the lemon pepper chicken is awesome. Thanks for saving me some. I sobered up and thought I would come back and party before you shut this baby down in less than six hours. I'm thinking I can tie a good one on by then.

Thanks for throwing such a great party. I hope you have a great clean-up crew, because we've all partied hearty and we kind of trashed your place. Sorry about that, but you know how a bunch of drunks can be.

Hi Mary,

Loved your comment about finding to difficult to be a sharing person when it comes to eggnog!! Yeah, I understand!

You like Vegemite? Ma'am, you have gone straight to the top echelon. I have special Vegemite sandwiches here, but everyone's been studiously avoiding them.

Over to you ....

David

G'day Epi,

Believe me, you have led the way for the Aussies at this party. You are No. 1 in our book!

And the good thing about Aussie parties is that they never really end, so here's your honorary Aussie passport!!

Funny you should ask about cheap hooch - very often an $11 bottle of wine will be indistinguishable from a $35 bottle ....

Er, hic!

G;day Stewart,

I never knew you were such a good dancer - man you are the 21st century inspiration for John Travolta.

I have assigned a special detective to answer your question. His name is Sherlock Holmes and he says he will meet you at Baker Street tomorrow with the answer.

Cheers

David

Bless you, Merisi,

How wonderful to have you here. Nice to see you have your camera, but most of us are in a serious state of disrepair, so please use the ``gentle'' filter!

Hope you and the family had a wonderful Christmas.

God bless and thanks so much for coming. Now you can lead the rhumba - Craver twisted my arm to say that and Stewart seconded the motion ....

Off you go

David

G'day Hammer,

So nice to see you could make it. Do forgive me if my speech is a little bit slurred (and I'm teetotal!!) and my hand-to-eye co-ordination is not what it used to be 24 hours ago!!

Cheers

David

Welcome, Tiffany,

Please pause in mid-step while I roll out the red carpet as you have your glass slipper poised in mid-air.

Spinach quesadillas? Ah, wonderful. I don't have a hangover, but they'll go down a treat.

Red wine for ma'am? White wine? Or some of that wicked frothy coffee with enough rum to get a boatload of pirates all animated!!

Cheers

David

Hi Akelamalu,

No worries at all. I had the boys (Craver, Dan Mega, Suldog, Allan Cook and Brian in Oxford) on the lookout for you.

They rang mission control and we were told that you had been given priority clearance to land your Lear Jet here in the adjacent paddock. Such a classy way to travel for such a classy lady.

Welcome and just ignore the (occasional) bad manners!!!

Much love

David

Wow, David. What a mess. It has been a lot of fun, and no matter what you say, I am staying to help clean up. Well, except for under the table. Wow! So, hand me a bag and a broom and I'll get busy.

Look! There is still a bit of food left! Good thing since I've been up so long! Enjoyed meeting all your pals. What a wild and crazy group they are! Happy New Year!

While some of us seem to feel that we missed this party, I see that quite a few of us slept over and are slugging around looking for the coffee cake and wake up cup of Joe. :)

Happy Holidays, David. Hope you had a good nights rest. Well help clean up as we munch. Glad someone brought paper plates and that huge trashcan is really handy. That was a beautiful sunrise I saw out in your yard.

Joy!

Sorry I'm late...my mode of transportation (the computer) crashed. I've survived without any injury but a bit of trauma. :)

...I'll just finish off those leftover goodies for ya, David.
