No Traffic Lights In German Town

A German town council has decided the best way to improve road safety is to remove all traffic lights and stop signs. From today, all traffic controls will disappear from Bohmte - a town used by 13,500 cars every day - and drivers and pedestrians will enjoy equal right of way. The idea of removing signs to improve road safety, called Shared Space, was developed by a Dutch traffic specialist and is supported by the European Union.

And what if one person doesn't feel like sharing? Does he get sent to "Time" Out?

I have read about a dutch town that uses this method. Successfully. Fewer accidents and no fatality since the removed all the traffic signs.

Sure would make me more careful.

Might work there but I could not see it working here. Too many people "own" the road and there's no way they are going to share. LOL!

If they removed the stop lights her the first thing I would do is grab a video camera and head for the biggest intersection in town. Would make for some great video.

Wow! LOL. This is curious - must google it! Perhaps they could go even further and remove all the cars!
