The Penne Is Mightier Than The Sword

Italians Take Action With Historic Pasta Strike

Three outs and you strike. There will be no spaghetti, fettucine or penne in Italy when the country goes on its first-ever pasta strike. Italians are giving up on their favourite food on September 13 because of a 30 per cent price increase in pasta. Other staples such as coffee, mozzarella and bread are also rising in price. Pasta-makers said the rise was due to a wheat shortage.

FOOTNOTE: To wheat, to woo.

Damn, that would suck! I remember going to Italy the first time as a kid and eating nothing but pasta for lunch and dinner every day for two weeks. It was heaven to me then.

Dear Helena,

A tea and biscuit strike! Yes, but it would be an extremely civilised strike ...

Keep smiling

David, I strongly disagree: I'd find it most uncivilized, being forced to go without tea for more than 4 hours. :-(((

The Italians won't be penne-pinchers to afford their faves?
