Colour Coded

Could Be The Cavey Crockett Factor

Find yourself drawn to the colour pink? Relax, it could be in our genes. A recent study has revealed that most women (and I quote) ``can't help loving pink''. Scientists at Newcastle University have found it's an evolutionary throwback to caveman days. Professor Anya Hurlbert, who led the study, said: "It might date back to hunter-gatherer days, when women were the primary gatherers. They would have benefited from an ability to home in on ripe, reddish fruits. Culture may exploit and compound this natural preference."

Sounds pretty good, doesn't it? But then I looked closer at the data - and found that they only tested 220 people. But tell me, is there something in the study? Are men and women drawn towards pink?

I think a lot of men are drawn towards pink..and that gets them into trouble...

As you say David, 220 isn't really any kind of study.

I believe people are drawn to colours based on their birth seasons. I have a September birthday and I just adore autumn colours so I guess summer people would go for blues and pinks.

Do you think we still harbour any kind of trait from the stone age? Apart from making fire rubbing two sticks together...:)

It's funny that you wrote about this! Recently my girlfriend has been dumbfounded about her 2 year old daughter's obsession with pink. Her little girl REFUSES to wear anything that is not pink.

And when I was a nanny to a 2 year old girl, same thing. A PINK OBSESSION.

Hi walksfarwoman,

Yep, I reckon 220 isn;t enought to draw a conclusion!

Interesting theory on birth seasons ....

Must interview 220 people to check it out!

Hi Colleen,

Thank you for visiting. Tell your girlfriend not to worry! I'm told (reliably) there's nothing unusual about that.

Maybe that's why the Barbie corporate colour is pink ...

Do keep in touch.

G'day Mushy,

A flower with teeth? I do like that description.

Yes, I used to have a pink T-shirt. Had no problems wearing it.

And I've got a couple of pink ties. Great with white shirts and dark suits.

I was wondering where my desire to write about colours came from! (check tomorrows post) I must have glanced through this earlier in the day and not realized what the trigger for the flowing thoughts was.

I do get annoyed at these published studies that, when you dig deep, see it's "the poll conisists of 200 0pink lovers" or other such nonsense.
