Divide And Conker

Time To Look Sharp, Cobber

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

Okay, so it’s not really a conker – and I thought I’d point it out before anyone in Great Britain does so (like Carol Cooper, for instance!) But it does look rather lethal, like it could be some sort of ancient weapon. Pity there wasn’t another one in the frame – or else we would have had a prickly pair!

Actually - what are these called. I grew up with them when I was a kid and it was a favourite thing for my brother to throw at me! They stung when they hit, too!

Hi El Tel,

I've still got a copy of `The Jungle Book'.

Did you ever read `Stalky and Co', also by Kipling?

Cheers

Hi Priyanka,

Thanks - I'm glad you liked the shot. Do keep in touch and let me know how your blog is progressing.

I think you have a really engaging writing style and you choose your topics with great sensitivity.

Okay, just to prove how really pendantic I am - the Isle of Man isn't a part of Great Briain at all! We aren't even full members of the Eurpeon Union.. with a population of less than 70,000, we have our own independant government, laws AND currency, so there!

(And yeah, I probably would've pointed out it's not a conker..)

Hi Carol,

Oops, I didn't know that. My humble apologies to all those who live there.

I've enrolled at remedial classes!

Keep smiling

A comment on your pun: GROAN. And I thought Carol was the pun master.
But I'm surprised none of knew what that is.
It's obvious.
It's a thingee.
When I lived in Brisso we had tons of trees that produced thingees. I'm glad to see they're still alive and well.

Hi Catmoves,

I should have known that - a THINGEE! Of course!

I knew you'd bring a special perspective to this one!

Cheers

We used to call these thingys monkey balls when I was a kid. They are actually.... um.... I forgot. Let me ask my hubby and get back to you.
Sycamore? Maple? I can't remember. In LA they are just 'street trees', had one in front of my house. Grow fast and make oxygen quick, or is that absorb the smog....??

Hi Rachelle,

Sycamore? Street trees? Waiting to hear your decision ....

We're on the right track here.

Hi Rachelle,

Maple? Wow - I didn't think we had maples here, but it sorta makes sense.

We have a maple-like clone called ``plane trees'', but I think you're probably right.

Thank you, Sherlock.
