Trivia Pur$uit

In 1996, the Society for the Portuguese Language set up a commission to halve the influx of English words. Among those listed as particularly offensive were ``franchising'', ``mall'' and ``shopping centre''.

Who can blame them? My mother-tougue is English, and even I hate those words!

I like to shop, but malls are the death of creativity.

Give me a bazaar or market any day.

I'm with you. Malls are convenient, but stalls or markets have personality and character and the ``let's go back again'' factor.
