Grate Expectations - A Photography Contest

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

Here's a quirky competition. And you don't need to be a professional photographer to enter. It's open to anyone who has a camera or who can borrow one. It's not your normal run-of-the-mill contest. Here's how it works ....

Your subject is ``Grate Expectations'' and you'll be judged not just on the quality of your photograph, but on your lateral thinking as well. So you could photograph a cheese grater as I've done, or you could shoot a grate or a heavily pregnant mum-to-be (``expectations'', get it?) or you could get really creative and reprise the famous Marilyn Monroe scene, with her dress swirling above a street-level grate.

You have a week to get an entry in. Bloggers can simply leave a comment here, with the url of their entry. Those who do not have blogs can leave the url of a Flickr account. Get those cameras out, hone your sense of humour, sharpen those powers of lateral thinking - and get in touch with me right here.

Entries close Sunday 20 May, at 1am GMT. Good luck.

Ah yes, that's right. I'd actually forgotten that it's completely different in the British Isles.

Then again, we don't need a specific day to honour our mothers.
