The Gospel According To, Er, Camouflage
Don't brush off the bark and leaves - they're there for a reason. A hunting retailer is selling camouflaged, waterproofed Bibles in the US. ``Our NIV (New International Version) Bible in Realtree camo is our best selling item,'' said David Lingner, president of Arkansas-based Christian Outdoorsman, which sells Christian-themed hunting and angling products online. The cover is graced by leaves and tree bark, enabling devout hunters to take their Bibles into the woods.
FOOTNOTE: Hunting rifles still give you "scope" for devotion.

What if they accidentally drop their bible? How could they ever find it?
Perfect for saying there prayers when being attacked by an angry grizzly.
In the world I grew up in, hunters were sitting high up in the tree looking out for deers! Now they go out in the woods and pray that a deer show up? I imagine San Francis sitting over on the other tree, talking the deer into not listening to the hunter's prayers. Conflicted out there in the woods, I guess. ;-)
a good example of commerce in the name of religion...frankly i really do not have much respect for such people who sell such things and lesser respect for people who buy them .....the church is the biggest business initiative which garners money in the name of god!!!...
Maybe I should pick one up for Hoss, today's opening morning for the "Hunts", you know.
Hi Hammer,
They'd look for the ``halo'', I guess. It happens to people who see the light!

G'day Your Eminence,
Or for being grisly when they can't find the correct response.

Hi Merisi,
Dear me, deer me!
I like the mental picture of St Francis. Works for me!

Hi Shooting Star,
I'm happy to give most entrepreneurs a bit of space - as long as they're not shonky!

Hi B,
Didn't know the significance of the date.
Then again, I'm sure Hoss has confronted the Gospel truth several times!

Perhaps they could read a bit more of the Old Testament while they're there. That hunting animals for sport is condemned in Judaism, for example. Then again, of the Christians I've known over the years, those that know that JC was a Jew have been in the minority. Hey ho!
Yikes, that image, does make me cringe a little, a gun in one hand, and a bible in the other..
My cousin used to go out with a radio so he could listen to the game while he waited for the deer to walk by. A bible is just as good to kill the timer, so long as it doesn't put you to sleep. That would be counterproductive, but maybe a sign from above.
As an Arkansas myself, I can sadly verify this as being true.
You would think that Acts 11.7 would be quoted on the cover: "Arise…kill and eat."
Hi Helena,
I didn't know that Judaism bans sport-hunting.

Hi Carol,
Is it religious fervour?!!

Hi FHB,
I always wait to see what unique perspective you bring to a discussion. I can just picture you using The Good Book to switch off a timer!
So your cousin listened to the game while he, er, waited for the ``game''!

G'day Luke,
Thanks for verifying the story first-hand.
Perfect quote for the cover ...
