Lasting Legacy

Counsel For The Defence

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

This is the Legacy badge I bought today. Since most of my readers are from overseas, I'd like to explain that Legacy is an Australian organisation, founded in 1923, that cares for the widows, children and dependants of defence forces personnel.

This afternoon, in the atrium of our office building, there were two Army officers selling the badges of various denominations and I was proud to pin this to my jumper. Why the jumper and not a suit? Because it's casual Friday, when I swap my suit for jeans and a T-shirt. When I was growing up in India, we called them either pullovers or sweaters, but jumpers is the preferred description here in Melbourne.

Great shot, I love the colors and texture. A nice idea for a fund raiser, too.

Thank you, Stacy

The colours, yep. The textures, yep. Precisely why I took the shot.

Thank you for that comment. It's such a great cause, too.

Take care

David

I never knew about this Legacy. Thanks for the info.

And I loved the contrast & texture. The badge is prominently visible out there.

Cheers !

We would call them pullovers or sweaters here as well. Any idea why they call them jumpers? When I hear that term it makes me think of a paratrooper or skydiver or something.

Oh well, whatever you call them, it's nice to know that casual Fridays are the same worldwide.

Hey David! I KNOW long time no see right??? (explanation on my blog) But anyways, I just wanted to say hi again and that I too (like one of your commenters stated) am happy that "casual Fridays" are a world wide thing. It's nice to know the things we all have in common. :-)

David...just make sure not to call 'em jumpers on your next trip stateside....jumpers here are what Catholic school girls wear over their buttoned shirts -- a sorta combination vest/skirt thingie that's usually plaid.

Might get you a look or two in the menswear department, is all I'm saying....

Although come to think of it, I've never sweated OR jumped while wearing one. Well, not deliberately....

A very worthy cause.

Beautiful cause--I have a lot of familly variously in the Navy and the Marine Corps, and it is a shmae our nation does not put caring for people high in it's priorities. Good for Oz, that they would care to take care of familly that can face a loss of these loved ones, even peace times. The military can be very dangerous, as you well know from your days ttraining with the Elephant Calvarly!

The joke in my profile stemmed from my use of Hannible Barca as an annonymous name at my friend Michelle's blog a few times. One day, I'll have to write a short story around it.

Bless you, David, for helping their cause.

First time I ever went to Australia, it turned out we were there for ANZAC day. It was very moving to learn the story behind that day. I'll have to do a post about that some time.
