Freeze A Crowd

There's Snow In Them Thar Clouds

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

I took this photograph early this morning because I thought the weather pundits had got it wrong. Heavy cloud around. But plenty of sunshine. It was streaming through at a shallow winter angle and lighting up the Southbank roof like four golden spikes. I was scoffing at the prediction for hail and snow. But the sunshine didn't last for long, mate. It's been snowing all round the state, and Sydneysiders have had their coldest morning in twenty years. That's right, the mercury in the warm harbour city dipped below zero in several suburbs.

Beautiful light! I tried to click the image to enlarge it, to get a better look, but in vain. It does not look nearly as cold as it must be, though. ;-) Are you out there snow shoveling yet?

In Vienna, we are enjoying summer skies and a veritable heat wave, a "cool morning" meaning 27° at 9am. A bit of a cold wind gust would be welcome, as long as it would last only long enough to cool us down into the low thirties during midday.

I read about the freezing cold down below on another Aussie blog, (http://dailybitsnbobs.blogspot.com/). Well, winter will visit us too soon enough again. ;-)

A hello from a new blogger.

'Heavy cloud around' but 'plenty of sunshine' - sounds intriguing and romantic to me.

We do need both. Clouds to shelter from the sun and sun to remind that the clouds will pass.

It's lovely to be here. Have a great day:)

Hi Merisi,

I'm fascinated by light and its nuances - which is why I do a lot of my photography in very low-light conditions.

No snow in my driveway, but Ballarat, Mt Macedon, the Dandenongs and heaps of other places are completely snowed in.

You're 27C at 9am? Whew - that's way too warm for me!

Will have to check out that blog link you've given me.

Keep smiling

David

Hi indicaspecies,

As you know by now, I've checked out your blog and left a comment. Enjoyed the river shots - the Teesta was very much a part of my school years in Darjeeling.

Thanks for dropping by. Do keep in touch.

Cheers

David

That is a gorgeous picture, David, low light does produce some wonderful images. Sorry to hear about the cold temperatures, we're having some really nice weather here, warm, but not too warm, there, I'm sure I've jinxed myself now! lol
