Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Parts Club

Many Nappy Returns

Much to the chagrin of Fab Four fans, a classic Beatles song about peace is now being used to sell diapers. Procter and Gamble are using "All You Need Is Love" in their Luvs diaper campaign – but won’t reveal how much it paid for the song, which was re-recorded by a studio group. Sony and Michael Jackson hold the copyright to the song, and they don't need permission from the surviving Beatles or their heirs to licence the song. A spokesman for Paul McCartney declined to comment.

Ah, I think it's sweet. Anyway, Paul has got far bigger problems to worry about than this..

Paul should sell out "Say Say Say" to get back at Jacko.....use it to sell EVERYTHING....cell phones, perhaps?

Good thinking brian. Not seen the advert myself; but not happy at anyone re-recording a Beatles song. Have added your blog to my M.M.L.M.G. links.

That song wouldn't work for their competitors, Pampers.

Just seen your post at Ruth's blog "Me, my life, my garden" and noticed you attended boarding school. I also attended boarding school from the time I was 11 until 16. I notice also that you are clutter free, so am I, I guess that boarding school education must have helped some. We had such tiny cubicles to live in that clutter wasn't an option.

About the music of the '60's, it is amazing to me that I can go into a place where there are lots of young people and they are playing the songs that I grooved to as a teen.

Hi David, just fell over your comment about Bjørn Borg on another blog. He was an icon in my childhood, I grew up in Denmark, so it made me follow here and check out your blog. Thanks for that, and hope you enjoyed interviewing him :)

Hi Carol,

I have a lot of time for Sir Paul, but he think he erred seriously when he married the second time around.

Hi Brian,

Nice idea. There is a bit of payback in the theme there. Love the concept of using it to sell cell phones.

Or would that be, er, sell phones?!!

Hi Ruth,

Yep, re-recording's not the best way to honour a classic, is it!

Many thanks for adding me to your links.

Happy gardening. I've still got half a garden of roses to prune!

Hi Vic,

It's always wonderful to hear from someone new. Yes, boarding school definitely was a big help in many ways, although I was always clutter-free even before I went there!

Yes, you're so right about the music. Great eras in any form of art never get outdated, do they!

Hope to see you back here again.

Hi Tine,

As I said to Vic (above) it's always a good feeling to see a comment from someone new.

I'm glad you read the interview. He was a terrific player, a great sportsman and a wonderful on-court example to young players.

Hope to see you back on this site.

I remember Paul McCartney saying that people misunderstood that song, thinking it meant that you ONLY need love, nothing else.

But what he meant was, we have all this, all this stuff, so much, all we need is love, and then it'll be perfect. But without it it means nothing.

Don't think a nappy ad is going to clear this up!

Hi Helena,

I've always wondered about the lyrics. Thanks so much for providing that lovely perspective. It clears up so many of my own questions now.

Merci

I agree with Shrink and I'm sure Michael Jackson is still catching up on his lawyer fees & imagine he still has been doctors he has to keep on his payroll so that he doesn't simply lose his nose.
