So, Who Does Your Boss Remind You Of?

Cheers was the place where ``everybody knows your name'' indeed. But have alook at this list of TV characters' names and tell me if any of their characteristics sound familiar. A survey of more than 5700 US workers has found similarities between real-lie bosses and the TV characters. The most popular responses included Sam Malone from Cheers (amicable, fun), Charlie from Charlie’s Angels (absentee), Judge Judy (no nonsense), Donald Trump from The Apprentice (demanding, powerful), Simon Cowell from American Idol (judgmental, insulting) and Mr Burns from The Simpsons (sinister). So who does your boss remind you of?

This is my second day at a new job . . . I don't even know who my boss is yet.

Hoping for a Sam/Ted figure.

Don't mind an absentee though. I think I prefer that. Then I can spend the day check out web/blog sites.

G'day Ak-Man,

Second day - well this post was obviously meant to be for you, my friend!

I hope you have a Sam. That would just be ultra-cool.

Maybe your boss is a blogger. Find out. Find out ....

Good luck with the new job, mate

Cheers (which is very apt, on a post about Ted Danson)

In "Nothing Sacred" (screenplay by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur), Fredric March describes his boss (the publisher of the newspaper for which he writes) as a cross between a werewolf and a rollercoaster. He's got a warm streak, but you have to blast for it.

That line always makes me laugh so hard I nearly cough up a lung.

When I was a boss I used to get very upset by the Pointy-Haired Boss in Dilbert cartoons... did I remind my slaves of him?

Hope I was more Ted Danson but I suspect not.

G'day Dan,

A cross between a werewolf and a rollercoaster - what an evocative description.

Another great caricature of a boss is the editor (oh Jeez, I can't believe his name escapes me) on `Just Shoot Me'.

Cheers

G'day Chertmeister,

I'm sure you were/are a 21st century Ted Danson in your role as a boss.

But let's run a straw poll of your former employees. Okay, names and addresses, please ....

Cheers

I'm waiting for the day my boss asks me to provide the new cover sheet for the TPS reports. Okay, it's a movie boss, but close enough!

I've had a homer simpson, frankenstein's monster, possesed linda blair, larry the cable guy, and all the women from sex in the city as bosses at one time or another.

I would have been extremely happy to work at cheers.

I'm my own boss so I mostly remind me of me but Sully from Monsters Inc reminds me a bit of my brother and he occasionally acts as if he thinks he's 'the boss of me' so does that count?

I used to have a physics teacher who was a dead spit of Hitler - does that count? (Shudder.)

My boss is my husband, so I'd better not say that he is Donald Trump crossed with Simon (American Idol) to the staff when he's in a bad mood, and like Sam when he's in a good mood.

Just for the record, he's my husband, so I'm NOT saying this!

Ozlady- I love your comment! My present boss is the best boss I've ever had. He is the most encouraging person I've ever met. So I suppose Sam Malone, considering my options...only my boss is clean and respectful, as well as fun.
