Overdue Library Book? Okay, That’s Fine
People who owe overdue fines to the Wethersfield Library in Connecticut, can pay them off with pasta, canned foods or items such as toothpaste. The library is collecting food and toiletries needed for the food bank - in exchange for forgiving fines on overdue books and materials. ``It's a win-win for everybody. People make a tangible donation that helps somebody and at the same time erase their fines,'' said Laurel Goodgion, the library's director. Goodgion says food and toiletry donations are good for all fines, even dating back a year ago. However, people will still have to use cash to pay for a lost or damaged book.

Wow. What a great idea! Makes me proud to call Connecticut my birthplace. =)
Hi Dawn
I think it's a terrific idea. And there is actually a tangible connection with meaningful assistance.
Cheers

That is such a great idea.
I know someone I'm going to suggest this to - thanks for this little tidbit, David.
Hi Steph,
Glad you liked it. It's such a practical idea.

Our library lets you return the books and pay the fine later.
Mummy has no library books at the mo', but owes £11!!!!
It would be good if they would accept some empty pistachio nut shells in lieu. We have tons to spare.....
Heheheheheheee
:@}
Now if only video rental stores will adopt the same idea.
Cheers,
Doug : )
david,
cool idea.
when i was in school, anyone who used to return books late was made to clean the library shelves and was told to arrange books in a shelf that needed attention.

Hi RK,
What a practical idea. We didn't just learn subjects at school - we were so lucky to learn life lessons as well.
Will definitely chek out the post.
Cheers
David
