Central Bark

Did I Say For Goodness Fake?

Photographs copyright: DAVID McMAHON

For about fifteen minutes early this morning, the light had this really strange quality. There was not a cloud in the sky and maybe it was the angle of the sun that made it so distinctive. The bark of this tree took on an unnatural hue, almost like a fake tree from a school theatre production. To get the perspective of the first picture (above) I had to get down on my knees. With my nose almost scraping the bark, I had to shoot straight upwards for the correct perspective. And I thought the picture below was also interesting, because of the contrast between the tree and the unsullied sky.

I love trees, I want to come back in my next life as an oak. This is a beautiful one, is it on your property?

Hi Carol,

Yes it's on our property. Ten years ago it was a spindly little sapling and now it's a towering landmark that drops a million leaves every autumn!

I love photographing trees and I wish I was good enough to paint them.

Cheers

Hi Sam,

I was lucky that I looked at and saw the strange quality of the light.

Thank you for the compliment. I must have looked a very strange sight, kneeling at the base of the tree to take the shot!

Cheers

Hi Craver,

Exactly the thought I had when I was on my knees, taking the shot. Also got wet grass stains on my jeans to prove where I was!

Cheers

I tried to find an email address, but couldn't, so I write here to thank you for your comment on my blog. I would be honoured to take you up on your generous offer to add my site to your blogroll and will without question do so with yours on mine.

I see that you are a professional photographer. Do you have a site with more of your photos?

I am only snapshooting with a little Sony Cybershot, which unfortunately gives me once again spots on images taken with zoom. I am thinking about upgrading a notch or two, wide angle, more zoom, without loosing the Sony's capability of taking low light shots without flash. May I ask you if you have any suggestions?
Thank you for any tips you may have for me.
With best regards from Vienna,
Merisi

Did anyone come up and ask why you were praying to a flakey tree?

Hello david, thanks for taking the time to read thru my blog. I did get washed out in the recen rains, but found a log of wood floating by side, that saved me day. For the last one day, I ve been visiting ur blog, just to see if u hav put up a new pic. For me photography doesnt mean just having the rite equipment but it is more abt seeing the beauty n things from a diffrent angle. There is a lot i cud learn and wanna learn from photographers with an insight, such as you. Though an amature, but still i wud like to request you to start a blog, dedicated to photography and the pics you take. Also if u cud provide details such as the settings and equipment used, i wud have a lot to learn from. Thanks and cheers!
