Greetings, Card

A Peace Of My Mind

Photographs copyright: DAVID McMAHON

We've got about sixty rose bushes at home and the blooms on this one are not only huge, they also have a wonderful perfume. The rose is called Chicago Peace and in various lights it is buttery yellow and delicate pink with subtle orange highlights. In full bloom, each rose is bigger than the span of my hand. To give you an idea of perspective, I took the second shot (below) with an SD memory card placed carefully on the rose.

Very pretty. They grow okay in winter down under like that?

Ah, so many roses have lost their scent, it's good to know that these are not only beautiful, but that they also fill your garden with their wonderful perfume.

I do hope everyone is now on the mend, I send a big hug to you and yours, and lots of good wishes for a quick recovery!

A rose is a rose is a rose.......as elegant as it's beautiful. I find it very difficult to grow them myself. Except for the miniature ones. Such a delicate shot.

Hi Brian,

Not really, there are only about a dozen blooms in the entire rose garden right now. Not just because of the drought in summer, but because of the severe frosts now in mid-winter.

And I'll be pruning them back in the next few days ....

Cheers

Hi Carol,

Yes, you;re so right - it's only the old-fashioned roses that have that amazing scent and this is one of them.

Yes, we're on the mend and I'll be back at work Friday.

Hope the wild weather there hasn't affected you

Cheers

G'day Dan,

Wish I could have posted a scratch-n-smell option with the rose pictures!

Hi Mushy,

Funny you should say that - see my reply to Dan above.

Chicago Peace is an old-fashioned rose with an old-fashioned scent.

And we're old-fashioned blokes, thank goodness!

Cheers

Hi Meanie,

I knew all along that you were a woze-sniffing dwagon.

Take care of Bob and Mum.

Hi Cuckoo,

That rose in particular is a stunner and I have another one called American Heritage which is exquisite.

Thanks for your good wishes. We are certainly on the mend - slowly!

Cheers

Hi Rene,

Someone as elegant as you would know all about that. I guess the climate there would make it difficult for roses at certain times.

But if anyone can find a way, I've got my money on you.

Cheers

Some comparison technology to nature.I couldn't but think does one challenge the other or is it a ongoing battle. To much thought lol, the roses are beautiful. Its like walking a path that you only dared to drive, you started seeing life as if your looking at in under a microscope.
