Buddhist Monk Wants World Peas

Pointing out stories you may have missed: A 24-year-old man who is the world's third holiest Buddhist has set up his own MySpace page. His Holiness Karmapa Trinlay Thaye Dorje, also known as the Black Hat Lama, revealed he spends his spare time listening to the Black Eyed Peas, surfing the internet and watching `The Simpsons'. His heroes are England cricketers Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff and he'd love to meet The Beatles and Elvis. His Holiness, the head of the Karma Kagyu school of Buddhism, says: "I spend much of the day studying Buddhism but I also have a PS3 and like surfing the internet and listening to music.'' He rationlises his many interests simply: "You can enjoy all the world's modern conveniences while still working towards the best personal behaviour. That is one of the things Buddhism teaches."

I find such stories completely charming. Here is some old humour for you accordingly:

The lama stops in front of a sidewalk hotdog vendor. As one might expect, he says "Make me one with everything!"

---------------------------

Years later, that same lama stops at that same hotdog cart. He hands over a sizable bill in return for his lunch. Finally he says "Shouldn't I be getting some change back?" The new cart owner replies "You, of all people, should know - change must come from within."

I figure that Buddhists won't be offended by my sharing these since they generally seem to possess a grand sense of playful humour.

How do you get to be the world's THIRD holiest Buddhist?

Are you the holiest and then stub your toe and swear whilst secretly blaming someone else- hence down two notches?

Or do you come second but start thinking "Hey I'm holier than him!" and drop a place?

Honestly, I want to know!!!

:@o

LOL b.t.bear.

Explanation is simple. Holiest is grandad, second-holiest is dad, then comes number-one son.

Nepotism rules, OK?

Hi Lin,

That is a lovely story. I will remember that for years to come - and I'm not just saying that.

Why not post it on your blog! It kinda gets lost as a comment ...

And no, no one could be offended by that punchline.

Cheers

Hi El Tel,

Nepotism? Dunno. I'll have to get my family to explain it to me!

Hi Oceansmile,

There certainly is a lot to be said for lightheartedness, isn't there!

Yes, I liked your peas recipe, too!

Holy or hole, lama or lamb, one thing is certain and I do want to assertain it: Internet is the only button or ocean that's going to liberate the "walled world". Nothing stops it. - P Sulochanan ( sulochanosho )

Hi Sulochanosho,

You are absolutely correct. The acquisition of knowledge, by any means, is the cornerstone of civilisation.

Once we learned by rote, at the knees of our elders. Now we learn in different ways and at the touch of a button, we can absorb cultures and understanding from the futhest corner of the globe.

Thanks for dropping by.

Cheers
