Time To See The Light

Thanks, Terry, For The Great Idea

If you noticed the new pictorial header up the top of this blog, all the credit goes to my friend and tech oracle Terry Fletcher, who is based in Lisbon, Portugal. This morning I found an email from Terry, showing what my blog would look like with the picture in the header. I was gobsmacked. You might recognise the photograph, which is one of a series of winter solstice shots on my post Light Entertainment. My picture, his idea, his layout, his technical execution (and, crucially, the thumbs-up from his wife, Maria). My heartfelt thanks to Terry and Maria on a weekend when I barely had time to compile the weekly blog awards. If you'd like to know how to incorporate changes into your blog header, Terry will post a tutorial on his terrific knowledge-sharing blog, Terry's Playpen.

I love it!

Just one thing though. When I'm visiting blogs and going to older posts, I like to click on the title bar to bring me back to the front page. You've lost the link on your header now.

See what I mean at Bob's sister's blog (dilly), where I've put in my own header but it still carries a link "home":

Dilly's Castle

BTW I only mean that as a suggestion, cos it can make it easier for people to naviagte sometimes, that's all. I just read my comment back and it sounded very school-ma'amy. LOL!!!!!

Hi Helena,

Good advice, taken in entirely the right spirit. I don't think I'd ever look on that comment as being school-marmish.

Will ask Terry to help me fix that.

My thanks ....

Cheers

David

It looks great! I know what Helena means, though. When I added a different font to my title, I had to use an image, and that lost my link to home, also. I added it back in on my sidebar.

My brother helped me with the header, and he added a dot in the regular title that is hidden by the image, but if you are lucky enough to roll the mouse over the dot (it's by the first R), you will get the link to home. (confused yet? I am.)

@helena & stacey . . .

I know exactlywhat you mean. David is still on OLD-Blogger and the code is somewhat restricted in what one can do. The image 'covers' the navigation bits and I am trying to work out how to overcome that prickly little problem.

I hope to be able to come up with a 'positive', but if I don't, I won't hide behind some vague explanation - I'll just admit it has defeated me and that you'll need to use your 'back' button or the "Home" link that appears at the bottom of each post.

Hopefully that won't be necessary!

Watch this space, peeps!

Looks good.

You should get a graphic for the weekly blog awards, too.

@ helena & stacy . . .

Problem with navigation fixed. You can navigate using the 'authorblog' title.

The solution was a bit 'clunky' and I will try to find something a bit more elegant before I post the idea in the tutorial . . .

Enjoy!
