Oxford Decree

Brian Thought It Was Casino Royale

What’s not to love about the humour of fellow blogger Brian In Oxford? I love the way he’s blogrolled me. Most people just link to Authorblog or David McMahon (Bart has me linked as ``Irreverence Down Under) but Brian’s got me pegged as ``Down Under David (DUD?)’’ and I love it, I think it’s very funny. Brian also made an interesting remark about the picture I posted a few hours ago of glass bangles at No Tangles, Just Bangles. One viewer and I agreed that the reds looked like salami in a delicatessen, but Brian’s comment was ``I thought perhaps you'd taken a photograph of chips from a casino. Perhaps the pinks are worth $5, the greens $25, etc. Very nice shot, though.’’

Thank you very much for the shout-out, David.

Does anybody know why certain comments automatically come from the user's email address, while others come from "noreply-comment@blogger.com". This of course makes it impossible to reply via email, and thus I write back with my thanks directly here on your blog.

Hi Brian,

No worries at all. I guess one of the things I find most refreshing about writing a blog is being able to showcase terrific work by other people.

That's why I often post pictures that other people send me, that's why I link to great posts on other blogs - and I guess that's why I run the Weekly Blog Awards.

Mate, I have no finite answer for your question, but okay let's think my way through this .... I'm guessing it's got something to do with the way each blogger has their template set up. In the Comments section, I guess some people tick the ``show email address'' option while others don't.

I guess that comments from those bloggers who do not tick the email option show up as ``noreply-comment@blogger.com''.

Does that sound reasonable to you?

Cheers

David / (Down Under David - DUD!)

That makes sense. I have done sooooo little with my template, mostly because I blog from work 95% of the time. The three minutes it takes to type an entry is much more acceptable than spending an hour dissecting hypertext code!

Hence why I once dubbed Brian as the "King of the Internets" on my blog.

Fear his glory, tremble in his mercy!

Ha! I thought they were casino/poker chips too—I just didn’t want to display my own ignorance by saying so. :)

Hi Brian,

Reading you loud and clear.

Hi Dan,

It all makes perfect sense to me. The fear and trembling have begun!

Hi Luke,

The more I think about it, the more logical it seems. As soon as I saw Brian's comment, I saw the connection!

Regarding Brian's comments on the bangles.. I have only one expresion... right from teh streets of Mumbai..... Aila!! [:o]

And regarding his question, think about this - if I am posting with just my name and the blog link, you'll never get to reply excpet at "noreply-comment@blogger.com"!! Though what David said also makes sense!!

Hi Sam,

Okay, now I'm baffled. Because I'm not a Bombay lad, you'll have to explain to me what Aila means!!

You've got me intrigued!

Cheers

David

Aila!! - This word originating from the streets of Mumbai has a flavor of its own and has been hard to replicate in any other language that I know of (Indian)...
Mostly used to express surprise/astonishment!! And has somehow perpertrated the lingo of Hindi speaking youth of India

Thanks, Sam,

Great word - and thanks for the explanation.

Maybe I can slot the word into my next novel, thanks to you!

Cheers
