Check Out This Neon, Leon
Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON
This is a very well known neon sign in Melbourne and the words ``City'' and ``Hatters'' flash on and off rapidly. I was about twenty metres away and thought I'd timed my shot to perfection, but as I hit the shutter, one of the words went off. So I kept walking and was a few metres closer when I took this shot. As you can see, this time I got both words illuminated. But because my first shot was a failure and I then moved to a different position, I also got the reflected glow of the red neon on the underneath of the metal roof. A bit like life, I guess - one failure is not always a disaster, and it gives you a better chance, with a clearer perspective. Would you agree with that?

Hi David
Does the neon sign say "Hatters" or Hattens", with an "n"
n or r
nice rice or rice nice!
Hi yesbut,
Ah, very astute - I see why you asked.
It actually says Hatters, (as in mad hatters) not Hattens (as in the Kattens that had lost their Mattens) ...
Or maybe I'm just talking through my hat ....

Perfect timing & lighting...well captured shot!
Hi Kalyan,
Lucky break. If I'd got it right the first time, I would not have got the gentle reflection on the metal.
Thanks very much for the comment. Much appreciated.
Cheers
David
Hi david,
Thanks very much for your suggestion on my site. I agree with your viewpoint & will try to implement it in the future.
Your feedback is very much appreciated & will be glad if you do it in the future too, which will help me improve & thanks very much for blogrolling my sites & I will want to reciprocate it too. I love the variety of subjects you cover on your blog
On another note on the 'ray of hope' pic, you may like the poem along with the shot, which puts the shot more into perspective by following the link above on the Calcutta blog...Thanks:)
Madness runs in Melbournites? Maybe they can't batten the hattens down?
OTH, it was great timing on your part. And thanks for the boost.

G'day Catmoves,
I've tried for years to batten down the hattens - without success!
And yes, madness definitely runs in Melburnians. It's a good thing!
No worries - look forward to more of your inimitable posts!
Keep smiling
David
