The first of the standard questions. Why do you blog?
I blog to tell my stories. Knowing, no matter how crappy or ironic or hard or frustrating a situation or experience is, that the next day I will sit down at my computer to make it funny helps get me through - you can laugh or cry. I choose to cackle evilly.What is the story behind your blog name?
My new blog, A Life In The Day Of, occurred to me because my stories about little incidents or anecdotes within my day often serve as a framework as a bit of an insight into what I am as a whole. I like the idea of showing the online world the sum of my parts, and the whole of my sum. I used to blog as 'Girl with the Mask' on the blog 'A Mask to Hide Behind' … I wrote a few nasty things about my family on there, and so decided to ditch the mask and concentrate on just being me and finding the funny, not the horrible.
What is the best thing about being a blogger?
I am a budding writer, and am working on my first novel, 'Spirit Fumble'. To get so many comments on how much people enjoy my stories gives me the confidence to keep persevering with something on a larger scale. The online world can be so much more forgiving to my flaws than reality, too!
What key advice would you give to a newbie blogger?
Blog for yourself, not your audience. We can spot a fake a mile off.
What is the most significant blog post you've ever read?
There are a series of blog posts from the gorgeous Caroline Smailes which made me think, "Do you know what? I really need to be a writer". The early stuff on In Search Of Adam puts into words thoughts I was too scared to even think about thinking. For that, I thank Caroline very, very much.
What is the most significant blog post you've ever written?
It has been significant to me to launch my new blog as myself, rather than hiding anonymously. I am still finding my feet a bit, but so far everyone has been quite lovely. I guess it is liberating to decide that you can take me or leave me - you can’t please everyone.
