Pail imitation of his former self

Photo copyright: DAVID McMAHON. Image ID: 137-5090

A couple of months ago, the Authorbloglets and I were in the bayside suburb of St Kilda and I was ambling along the Esplanade (the "Espy" to the locals) when I spotted this sight at the Sunday market. Naturally, I had my camera with me, so I was able to take the shot of this mannequin with the unusual headgear.

When I got back home, I posted the image on my Red Bubble site, which is home to more than 1000 of my images from around the world. I threw open the image in a worldwide title-writing contest and I received so many great entries that the result was a three-way tie! You can view the high-resolution version of this image, along with all the winning entries here.

And yes, one of the joint winners was Leslie, the popular Vancouver-based blogger who took the trouble to come all the way to Vancouver International Airport to have breakfast with me in August 2008.

I can only surmise - and I may be wrong, Brian - that one of the stall-holders at the Sunday market was responsible.

Next time I go back there, I'll check if someone has written a buck list on it!

Now that is what I call an unusual, fun photo!

Good morning David, someone has a very good sense of humor.

This pail-faced fellow was probably saying to himself: Yes I Can.

Hi Maggie - so glad you liked this shot.

I got the impression that it was a regular sight at the Sunday market!

I think it must have had something to do with one of the stalls at the Sunday market along the Esplanade, Denise!

VERY nice work, Johnny. I should have listened more carefully to see what he was whispering!

Some sort of social protest?

I'm glad it wasn't a self portrait.

PS would that have been apailing?

Hey Big Guy!
I've been wondering how you were! You seemed to drop off the face of the earth there when the flooding hit. There was much speculation and I'm ever so happy to see your return!

Just me - another buckethead.

So glad to see you, David...had been trying to contact you since the wicked weather that gripped your great country last year and the email address didn't work, couldn't get onto the red bubble site for some reason...what a relief to see you had stopped by to see at Holding Patterns...love the pail on the head shot, rather like an ostrich with no sand available!
