Tangerine Dawn

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON. Image ID: 130-6103

This was shot five weeks ago, before sunrise on 13 September, in the first fortnight of our spring. These are plane trees, and because they were still bare, I knew they'd look great against nearby roof lines.

This is just a low-res version of the image, but if you want to view the high-res shot, just click here.

This is a perfect example of what i've missed while you've been away.
The composition is fabulous, David.

I wouldn't have noticed the rooftops till I read your words, and that would have been a shame, they're so much part of the picture.
And I see one solitary streetlight shining.
Great!

Well spotted, Mimi - there was indeed a streetlight. And thank you for those very kind words. Much appreciated.

So glad you followed the link and checked out the high-rise version. I'll be posting (as soon as I can) a shot I took in Central Park, NY - the high-res of that is fairly interesting!

Hi Sara - you should copyright that word ... it's perfect for any photographer!

Sheila! How great to see you here - as you can imagine, it was a very quic decision to come back to blogging, precisely because of the friendship of many people whose work I admire so greatly.

I've missed these shots!
Tangerine Dawn drew me because the boy (almost a teenager now! *gulp*) is tangerine mad... with the Blackpool FC who make dreams come true! A tangerine dawn or dream indeed.

Love the silhouette. very effective.

Yes,Welcome back your contrast on your silhouette is what I love about evening Photography it is so, so nice to see your title back on my sidebar- I know I am in for a treat! I often think, like I mentioned before your break, I wonder what David would think about this photo,---- because I enjoy your perspective so much I always like your input as well- I have not been as prolific of a blogger as I have in the past but I would love to show you my post about the butterfly at the beginning of this month.

With every photo, I learn more about photography. Today's lesson: composition. Love the bare trees in silhouette.

As always, David, your photography is incredible!! I love the silhouettes...the topaz color...this is so much more than photography; it is a piece of art...and of course, the Red Bubble version is spectacular! Will have to leave you a comment there as well ;-)) This left me all smiles...perfection! And it truly feeds the soul! Hurrah! Warmly, Janine

Thanks, Brian

That was a strange week, with leaden skies at dawn - then along came this one and out I raced, camera in hand!

Hi Thumbelina,

So glad you like the silhouette. Great to know the colour has special significance for my young friend. Do wish him well for the significant day that is looming!

Hi Ayak,

Thank you for the visit, the comment - and not least of all, the welcome!

david mcmahon said...

Thanks, Bernie,

I remember my mother teaching me that rhyme when I was very little and I, in turn, taught it to my own children.

david mcmahon said...

Thank you, Marcia - those are such kind words.

Yes, I've already been to your blog and viewed the images and left a comment.

It's so rewarding to be back among blog friends.

david mcmahon said...

Thank you kindly, Willow

Silhouettes always emphasise great skies. It took me a little while to realise that an "extra" element actually adds to the value of a good sky shot.

I'm so glad you like the result.

david mcmahon said...

Thank you, Sniffles and Smiles,

Funny you should mention the soul - because on Saturday night I was talking to a very dear friend who loves photography and I mentioned that I thought any camera art was good for the soul!

Hi Katherine,

I was so sorry to ready about your family's recent loss. Thank you for taking time, during your grief, to drop by and say G'day.

david mcmahon said...

Thank you, Teacher's Pet,

We all know nothing, not even the best photograph, can possibly compare to the power of Nature and the artistry of God.

Thanks so much, Indrani - wonderful to hear from you.

And it's so good to be back in BlogLand!
