Verse and worse

Will we soon see a colour Nook?
Will Barnes & Noble take a second look?
Or will they launch a brand-new Cranny?
That I can purchase for my granny

I do not know
What will be on show
But I like to read a book
Without that glow....

Give me a paper book
My dear friend
There must be some text
We do not electronically send

Something to do with paper and ink
Something that makes us think.
Or take a drink
But lasts more than a wink....

Love your work, Sandy!

As someone who embraces technology in all its forms, my vote nonetheless would be for a paper-and-ink book too!

A paper book has always been my love. I romanticize the smell and feel of the paper as the black ink lifts of the page to carry me away into whatever treasures unfold.

I scoffed at the e-reader for many months. But now I eat my words because I am the proud owner of a Nook. It will never replace my books but goodness it is so handy right now as I bounce between hospitals with both parents ill.

I love being able to read my book or read aloud my parents favorites and have my music all in one small item that goes in my purse. Plus it plays sudoku when I can't concentrate on a story. How cool is that?

Have a blessed day today!

Jules,

I hope your parents recover soon. I really enjoyed your perspective on the Nook v paper books and how one will do what the other doesn't.

Dear David,
I haven't come by yet to say "welcome back" butn ow I have come to realize I actually missed your irreverant verses and wonderful photography.
It's wonderful to have you back.

A book in the hand....
Is worth much more, and....
Technology has gone too far
For this Granny, its beginning to jar.

Good Reading!

Ill have to use the Dictionary and the www an awful lot to make a fitting response to that one. All I can come up with is a

I'll just have to by a book
that would let me be a cook
but I'm afraid my fanny
would get a slap from nanny

Maggie, I'm all for technology, and here is a lot to be said about the convenience of an e-reader, but books just have an extra human dimension!

Nice work, RuneE - much to be admired!

Not too sure if gran will like it!
She may in fact tell me to 'bike it!'
She'd give a look and hard look
and say. "Give to me a proper book!

Barnes and Noble books cost too much
But their atmosphere and such
Is inviting and comfy that is clear
My pocketbook is too small my dear

Barnes and Noble? I had to look
To find out what it is, this Nook?
It's like a Kindle from Amazon
Which you can also read with no light on.

(I'd still rather have a proper book anyday)

Great idea, the Nook. Silly name, though. Will poor B & N always be in the shadow of Amazon?

paper books - anytime, all the time. Well written

david mcmahon said...

Eddie, I want to know exactly what Granny's reaction was!

david mcmahon said...

Thanks, TechnoBabe - really appreciate the trouble you take to reply in verse!

david mcmahon said...

Ayak, you did so well to rhyme with the word "Amazon"!

david mcmahon said...

Hi Willow, isn't it strange to think how much is spent on giving new products the "right" name!

david mcmahon said...

Thanks, Rajlakshmi - I'm happy to read a book either way, in print or electronically - but my study would be bare without all its "real" books!
