Heaven Scent

From The Garden To The Table, With Rich Perfume

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

The vases at Casa Authorblog are always filled with fresh flowers from our garden. But the greatest pleasure in walking through the door with an armful of fragrant blooms comes from the knowledge that everything on our property was planted by us.

We built this house and we planned very little detail, from what's inside it to what's outside it. We didn't just inherit someone else's garden. We planned our own, right down to the smallest detail.

Each time we place our own flowers in the vases, it reminds me of how much pleasure the simple act of planting a cutting, a stem or a plant can bring.

How lovely that you built up everything from the planning to the planting and that you used cuttings to start off with. Your garden must be an absolute delight.
Roses are beautiful and if you crush the stems they can last well. Cut flowers are lovely around any home.

I totally agree David!
There's nothing like fresh flowers especially when one has planted them oneself!
I love the smell of roses! Always reminds me of home! (England)

A Very Happy New Year 2009 to you and your family!

What a beautiful rose, David! My grandmother used to have a lovely flower garden and often graced her table with blooms from it. Thanks for sharing this proof that it isn't cold in all the world.

Cheers! & Happy New Year!

Fresh flowers. The scent of green leaves. Gardening. Feeling the soil. Digging holes and putting new seeds. Watering...

I used to work two summers in a lovely garden. We used to make fresh flower bouquets everyday. It was amazing. But hard work.

Your post triggered all these memories... I wish it was summer.

Can't wait to have my own garden one day.

It is great you could do everything from scratch.

I have stared new gardens and redone old gardens.

From spring to fall we also have fresh cut flowers in a vase in the kitchen.

It is kind of cool to be reminded it is summer full of flowers some where.

Beautiful flowers and I like that you have planted all that grows on your property..we adopted a similar philosophy when we built our house; plus we decided a long time ago that all displayed art in our house would be original..I taught art for 35 yrs and have some wonderful originals of my students works..as well as works of friends and co-workers! They always make for great conversation pieces as well visually pleasing!

That is one beautiful rose. I love roses, especially those with very deep rich colours like this one.

I so agree! There is no better feeling of nurturing and enjoy all that you sow! My gardens are my own too! (the huge Locust trees came with the place) I actually dug out the gardens to create my own.
And now....I cannot wait for Spring!
It is my favorite time of year, when I'm blessed with the grace of what my fingers began!
