One Fell Swoop

Them’s Not Loggers, Officer, Them’s Beavers

Green campaigners in Poland called in police after discovering an illegal logging site in a nature reserve - only to find it was the work of beavers. Environmentalists found 20 neatly stacked tree trunks and others marked for felling with notches at Subkowy in the country’s north. But police followed a trail left where one tree had been dragged away - and found a beaver dam right in the middle of the river.

FOOTNOTE: Dam nuisance.

I remember one of the first stories I read in school (ages about five)was all about a young beaver trying to get to his lodge beneath the river and it impacted me until this day! I hate to hear about beaver dams being destroyed although I know they can be a problem with the streams and creeks...funny how learning about the lives of other creatures can make such a difference in your own.

I can't stand it when animals are punished for their natural behavior for the convience of people. Ugh!

Not really the point of your post, David, but I feel the same as Sandi.

Beaver dams are destroyed because they flood creeks and thus the "vacation" homes of people. Vacation somewhere else, dam it.

Why do we humans always have to destroy?

If we take everything from the animal kingdom we will end up living on a barren planet.

A few years ago, a family of beavers began cutting the famed Japanese cherry trees in Washington, DC. The Park service folks rounded up the suspects and sentenced them to life in parkland far away.
